Lihir Operation is a tier-one open cut mining operation based on Aniolam island, in the Lihir Group of Islands, located in New Ireland Province approximately 800km north of Port Moresby. It is one of the world’s largest producing gold mines and is located on a geothermally active extinct volcanic crater. Production first commenced in 1997. The operation consists of an open pit mine producing refractory ore, which is treated using pressure oxidation before the gold is recovered by a conventional leach process.

Purpose

Our Lihir Marine team provides the crew to safely operate a fleet of belly dump barges that remove mine waste. This includes shore duties to assist with the berthing and departure of the barges. The operation runs 24/7 and is critical to the success of the mine. We are currently hiring an experienced Able Seaperson, responsible for carrying out the Barge Master’s instructions for the safe berthing and un-berthing of barges during operations.

Essential Duties

Among other responsibilities, our Able Seaperson will be accountable for:

Assist with all the compulsory Barge safety and emergency drills as per the NMSA guidelinesCarrying out Barge Master’s instruction for safe berthing and un-berthing of barge during barging operation.Assisting with carrying out the Barge Prestart and confirming all CAT A and B fault are managed before starting Barge operations.Maintain watch keeping when drifting outside and maintain effective communication with barge master rope man and dispatchers.Contributes to the efficiency of production by ensuring effective, efficient and safe management of vessel and wharf breakdowns with marine maintenance team. Follows marine operations supervisors’ direction when assigned to Marine Maintenance as required by safely assisting with maintenance or breakdown tasks on the barges, wharfs or marine operations infrastructure.Training & Experience Minimum Two(2) years  seatime serving as General Purpose Deck Rating on vessels of any size.Minimum of Grade 10 CertificateMinimum NMSA GP Deck Rating 2 CertiicationValid Solas certificatesValid NMSA seafarer medical certificate.Working Conditions

This role is offered on a 28:14 Fly in, Fly out (FIFO) roster from multiple locations in PNG to Lihir island.
