The Academic Programs team at JHU Carey Business School is currently seeking an **_Academic Advisor_** . Academic advisors work to provide exemplary service to students, offering support and direction, as they navigate their experience at Carey Business School. Through academic planning and resource connection, academic advisors aim to facilitate student success, retention, and completion, with the ultimate goal of creating self-directed business leaders. This position utilizes a hybrid work schedule, with at least three days/week at the Harbor East campus in Baltimore, and up to two days/week working remotely. This position also requires the ability to work a flexible schedule and travel to other campuses as necessary. This academic advisor position will primarily support our online Flex MBA students, but may also support students from other programs, including MS Programs. This role will directly interact with the Associate Director for Flex MBA Advising, the Sr. Associate Director for Flex MBA Programs & Advising, Academic Program Directors and other faculty leads, as well as other advisors on the Student Experience Team; staff in other Carey Business School units, particularly the Office of Records & Registration and Student Affairs; and current students to provide counsel regarding academic planning, curriculum requirements, personal goals, specialization or elective course selection, and connection to student resources. **Information about the Carey Business School Flex MBA Program** The Flexible MBA program at Johns Hopkins Carey Business School provides world-class, graduate-level business education to working professionals in a flexible, primarily online format. Approximately 1,500 students are currently pursuing their MBA in the stand-alone Flex program or in one of seven Flex-aligned dual MBA programs. **Specific Duties & Responsibilities** _Academic Advising - Direct Work with Students_ + Help students navigate their academic experience by assisting with proactive academic planning, creative problem solving, and connection to student resources. + Conduct individual and group advising sessions via Zoom, via phone, or in-person meetings. + Document student meetings and notes in student information database. + Help guide students to put together their own academic plan, taking into account their goals and tuition/financial aid needs. + Advise students on registration, course selection, academic programs, and elective selection. + Provide early interventions identifying and communicating with “at-risk” students identified by faculty or other student-facing departments. + With the purpose of facilitating student success and retention, track student progress by running reports, analyzing student data, and communicating with students regarding registration, grades, and graduation. + Provide a response within two business days to student e-mails and phone calls. + Make available a small number of evening advising hours if necessary. + Assist students with matching career goals and course offerings. + Coach students through the grade appeal process, student grievance procedure, and similar processes. + Meet with academic probation students and reinstated suspension students to conduct a self-assessment and academic success plan. + Communicate with students to promote Carey events, services, clubs, and organizations. + Utilize Stellic as primary academic planning tool and encourage students to access tool for self-service. + Utilize Stellic’s degree audit technology to conduct and approve graduation audits. _General Responsibilities_ + Participation in regularly scheduled Program/advisor meetings. + Establish and work on goals intended to improve the Academic Administration Office and the student experience. + Participate in program and school events (i.e., graduation, orientation, residencies, student award ceremonies). + Make suggestions based on data and student feedback on how to improve Academic Administration Office processes. + Maintain good relations with Carey students, faculty and staff, as well as other personnel from other divisions of Johns Hopkins. **Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities** + Cultural competence; ability to work effectively and collaboratively in multi-cultural environment. + Strong verbal and written communication skills, including ability to draft and prepare original correspondence. + Strong analytical skills. + Ability to articulate and market business academic programs. + Ability to interact in a professional manner with faculty, students, staff and the public. + Strong student service skills. + Ability to manage competing priorities. + Ability to work with a diverse student population. + Proficiency in microcomputer software applications and other student software tools. + Demonstrated ability to follow-up on issues and be team oriented. + Proficiency with databases and spreadsheets. + Proactive in terms of seeking information to keep current on changes in procedures, requirements, etc. and developing proposed solutions for challenges encountered. + Background or educational experience in counseling, social work, student affairs, or higher education strongly preferred. **Minimum Qualifications** + Master's Degree. + Three years' experience. + Additional experience may substitute for advanced education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula. **Preferred Qualifications** + Experience with graduate advising preferred. + Knowledge of graduate business curriculum preferred. + Experience working with adult students preferred. Classified Title: Academic Advisor Role/Level/Range: ACRP/04/MD Starting Salary Range: $55,800 - $97,600 Annually ($75,700 targeted; Commensurate w/exp.)
