Location: Farmingdale, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Fri Oct 18 2024 Job Description: Farmingdale State College seeks to hire a full-time Academic Advisor that will advise and serve Farmingdale students as a professional staff member in the College's Academic Advisement and Information Center (AAIC). Working with seven other Academic Advisors, as well as with the Administrative Office Manager and the Receptionist in the AAIC, and collaborating with administrators, faculty, staff, and offices across the College, the advisor will serve FSC students by: + Advising and registering incoming first-year students; as well as more advanced students in selected majors. + Meeting with students given early warning, academic warning, and probation notices and orchestrating follow-up. + Providing information, resources, and referrals on broad academic matters and special opportunities to all FSC students. + Providing support during recruitment events such as Open House, Admitted Student Days, Summer Orientation and extended registration dates. + Conducting workshops and preparing advisement materials and handbooks. + Assisting faculty advisors, instructing them on the use of updated Banner modules, Degree Works, and CRM Advise information systems for purposes of student advisement, tracking and degree audit. + Sustaining partnerships with other individuals and offices (faculty, tutoring, disabilities services, financial aid, student affairs, athletics, veteran affairs, etc.) to assure that students receive appropriate guidance and support. + Providing critical care to certain vulnerable student populations through specialized programs. Job Requirements: MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelor's Degree in an academic discipline or related field (e.g., counseling, social work) + Knowledge of skills for academic success such as study habits, time management and overcoming test anxiety. + Ability to advise college students individually, assessing needs and offering guidance. + Ability to work with individuals and offices that serve students. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: + Experience serving as an academic advisor or counselor in Higher Education. + Familiarity with Banner and Degree Works. + Excellent record keeping skills (using computer systems). Additional Information: This is a full-time UUP position. + For the first 10 working days, beginning Friday, October 18, 2024, and ending Thursday, October 31, 2024, applications will be limited to UUP Farmingdale. + CLOSING DATE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS: Saturday, November 16, 2024. + SALARY: $55,151 + $3,400 in downstate location pay = $58,551 Total Compensation.
