Position Title:Academic Advisor III Job Group:Professional & Scientific Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree and 5 years of related experience Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with graduate students Professional work experience or master's degree in field related to academic programs Experience using Student Information Systems and/or related technology Job Description: The Ivy College of Business Graduate Programs Office at Iowa State University is seeking an Academic Advisor III. This position will serve as the academic advisor for our professional masters programs and certificates, including Masters of Information Systems, Business Analytics, and Accounting, and associated concurrent programs, as well as future programs. The role will oversee student registration, preparation for graduation, and will assist in the administration of academic policies and curricular standards. In collaboration with Ivy Graduate Career Services, the position will teach a Business Specialty Masters Seminar each semester. This position will also help to manage graduate course availability and enrollment planning in collaboration with the Student Services Coordinator II and will be cross-trained on other office functions. The position will also play a key role in the admissions process, helping to screen and admit students based on established criteria in partnership with the Director of Graduate Education (DOGE), which means the role will actively shape each program. In addition to the duties above, the Academic Advisor III will assist with graduate recruitment and retention programs. The position will have daily interaction with prospective and current students, as well as with faculty and staff. Additionally, this advisor will collaborate with the Graduate College and academic units across the university. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be necessary, as well as strong technology and organizational skills, and the ability to work with many different types of people. The ability to serve as a leader, work independently on unique projects, and collaborate on team projects is vital. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with graduate students who are eager to engage with staff and faculty in personal and meaningful ways. Working with these students is more than just transactional interactions— getting to know them and understanding what’s going on in their world is a key part of this role, while also understanding and following program and college policy. The opportunity to work with graduate students—many of whom bring perspectives from around the world—gives this position a broad and variable scope.. Level Guidelines • Senior-level position possessing high-level professional and/or technical skills working independently under minimal supervision to support ISU’s mission and department or work unit goals • Applies senior-level professional knowledge and expertise to work requiring greater latitude • Solves moderately complex problems and regularly exercises judgment to determine appropriate action • Regularly exercises judgment to resolve problems and determine appropriate action on a broad set of issue and problems.
