Job Description
SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Director, University College Career and Academic Programming, the Academic Program Coordinator is charged with supporting the approximately 2,000 students who are not yet matriculated into a major in one of the University’s other colleges or schools, and students pursuing the Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Studies (BLS). The Academic Program Coordinators develops, coordinates, implements, and assesses a variety of activities designed to assist University College pre-major and BLS degree completion students in their transition to University life and in the enhancement of their ability to benefit from the programs and resources of the University.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develops and implements a wide array of strategic initiatives, experiences, and activities that acclimate students to the University, create a welcoming and supportive environment for students, and foster a bond to University College and a shared identity with fellow College students.
Develops and implements strategic initiatives, activities, and experiences that enable University College students to make good use of all the resources of the University and that mature their understanding of the nature of university study.
Establishes liaison and coordinates responsibilities with academic administration and advising staff within other Colleges/Schools to stay informed on new programs and curricular changes to facilitate accurate and effective promotion of pre-major academic opportunities.
Collaborates in the design of the New Student Seminar for University College students, and provides instruction for at least one section of the seminar per academic year.
Acts as the University College Fellows Coordinator within the campus-wide University Fellows program under the Advising 2025 Title III grant and may serve on other standing or ad hoc committees.
Supervises the training and activity of a caseload of 50 University College Fellows within the New Student Seminar as well as their responsibilities outside of the classroom.
Provides academic advising support as needed to pre-major students in collaboration with the advising team through peak period advising, coordination, and implementation of advising group sessions related to registration, major declaration, and academic policy education.
Manages University College podcast, including host and guest recruitment, collaboration with WMSC, podcast promotion, and administrative duties.
Utilizes DegreeWorks, Banner, and Navigate to effectively provide advising support to pre-major students and document outreach and engagement.
Prepares clear, technically sound, accurate, and informative reports containing findings, conclusions, and recommendations for academic initiatives and programs.
Creates engaging and informative digital and print materials for advertising initiatives relevant to the needs of University College pre-major and BLS students.
Incorporates relevant strategy, theory, practice, data, and innovations in the field into programming initiatives.
Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
REQUIRED:
Master's degree from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of three years of experience in academic and/or student development work in a large university with a highly diverse student population.
Knowledge about issues related to undergraduate and adult student success, and demonstrated capacity and commitment to maintaining currency in emerging theory, practice, and innovations in the field.
Knowledge and facility with software applications that support student advising, the tracking of student progress, and the assessment of services for students, or the aptitude and strong interest to learn to use such technology.
Demonstrated commitment to student success.
PREFERRED:
Ability to work as a constructive member of a professional team and a strong appreciation of the value of collaboration.
Excellent communication skills.
