Essential Functions: Undergraduate Advisor: Advise prospective and current undergraduate students seeking Michigan teacher certification in Elementary Education, Secondary Education, and Special Education. Opportunities may arise to advise students in Community Health, Exercise and Sport Science, and Sport Management. Maintain continuous advising relationships with students; effectively engage students in broad discussion from initial college preparedness through career planning; monitor and communicate using university systems, social media, small groups, and face-to-face sessions, as appropriate. Communicate effectively and accurately admission, academic, and nonacademic requirements, policies, and procedures. Continuously develop knowledge of best practices, policies, procedures, technological tools, etc. Academic Success Coach: Serve as an intervention specialist for identified students groups (such as students on probation), develop academic recovery plans, and enhance student skills that will benefit their academic, professional and/or personal success. Develop and implement preventative strategies for at-risk students to maintain good academic standing. Collaborate with campus resources to support students, provide one-on-one and group coaching related to academic success, and coordinate study groups, including support for the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification. Coordinate University and College Probation. Recruit, train, develop and supervise work-study students, student employees, volunteers and/or graduate students. Coordinate Learning Communities: Coordinate learning communities to provide engaging activities to enhance belonging, academic support, and career exploration. Seek grant funding to support learning communities. Recruit, train, develop and supervise student peer mentors. Additional Responsibilities: Assist with campus events such as FestiFall, New Student Orientation, Commencement, etc. Assist in the implementation of divisional student success strategies, including but not limited to; community building activities, workshops, cohort initiatives, mentoring, leadership, conferences etc. Assist with divisional outreach efforts, as needed, to help attract and retain various student populations. Serve on College and University committees, as necessary. Must be available to work evenings and weekend hours as requested. Must have own transportation. Other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree required; Degrees in student affairs, higher education, or related fields. Ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team setting; ability to work with faculty, administration, staff, parents, and students; sensitivity to the needs of a diverse and non-traditional student population; interpersonal/human relations skills; ability to encourage and empower students to make their own decisions; ability to act as an advocate for both the student and the university; ability to identify students' needs for support services to make appropriate recommendations; and ability to maintain confidentiality. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Excellent organization, technological, and collaborative skills. Strong focus on detail and task completion. Must be available to work evening and weekend hours as needed and requested. Preferred Qualifications: Master's degree preferred. Previous employment as an Advisor or Success Coach in higher education. Knowledge regarding State of Michigan teacher certification. Experience with Banner, Degree Works, and the Canvas LMS system.
