The Simulation Program Academic Technology Specialist for the Simulation Program at the Emory Nursing Learning Center plays a critical role in supporting and maintaining simulation-related technologies within the School of Nursing. This position oversees the operation, integration, and optimization of simulation technologies, including audio-visual systems, virtual and augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and learning management systems. Acting as the primary liaison between the Simulation Team and IT departments, the specialist ensures seamless access, training, and troubleshooting for faculty, staff, and students.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Support and Maintenance of Simulation Technologies
Oversees and supports the operation of simulation-related technologies, including audio-visual equipment, desktop computers, laptops, tablets, simulation learning management systems, virtual reality, augmented reality, artificial intelligence, and other relevant tools.Serves as the primary liaison between the School of Nursing's Simulation Team and SON/University IT to facilitate the evaluation, procurement, implementation, and efficient use of technology resources.Manages access to technologies for simulation staff, faculty, and students, ensuring seamless integration into the nursing curriculum.Acts as a subject matter expert (super user) for all technologies, providing training and support to faculty, staff, and students as needed.Maintains comprehensive records of equipment, including warranties, purchase and expiration dates, serial numbers, and maintenance logs.Collaborates with simulation leadership and vendors to assess the performance of current technologies and recommend optimizations, upgrades, or replacements.2. Technical Support and Issue Resolution
Develops and implements service-level agreements to ensure timely and effective technical support for simulation activities.Partners with School of Nursing IT, University IT, and vendor support teams to resolve technical issues promptly.Communicates updates on equipment status and repair timelines to simulation staff, faculty, and students.3. Data Protection and Security
Ensures the security of electronic data and programming by safeguarding simulation technologies against data loss and unauthorized access.4. Simulation Equipment Management
Assists simulation staff with the setup, operation, maintenance, and repair of simulation manikins and related equipment.5. Professional Development
Stays current in the field by engaging in self-directed learning, building professional connections, and participating in relevant training and development opportunities.6. Contribution to Simulation Center Success
Supports the broader mission and vision of the Simulation Program by performing additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director of the Emory Nursing Learning Center and the Senior Director of Information Technology.JOB DESCRIPTION:
Leads strategic division and school-wide efforts to identify and deploy technologies that support the teaching and learning mission of the University. Administers enterprise-wide systems and applications to ensure operability of services and provide a highly available, secure, and robust academic technology infrastructure. Designs support models; deploys equipment and infrastructure into supported rooms and facilities and/or deploys enterprise-wide software applications for use by the Emory University and Emory Healthcare communities. Monitors application activity, equipment security, and system functions to ensure required availability and integrity; works with OIT Enterprise Systems to ensure 7x24 end-to-end monitoring and event management systems and alerts are in place and properly supported. Consults with OIT Infrastructure teams to identify new and evolving systems, servers, storage, and database resources. Ensures systems and applications comply with required mandates and best practices. Provides customer support to troubleshoot advanced-level technical problems, ensure productivity, and to maintain system operability. Educates customers on available central services to promote technology usage at Emory and to create best practice standards. Reviews departments' proposals for new technologies, and makes subsequent recommendations to management based on technology and financial support requirements. Partners with vendors and other campus experts to evaluate customer technology requirements and offer effective, innovative and supported solutions. Participates in projects to evaluate, test, implement, upgrade, and/or purchase new systems, applications, or services. Serves on professional organizations' work groups and committees to promote industry standards and collaboration with peers to influence future technologies. Performs related responsibilities as required.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A bachelor's degree and three years of experience in systems and/or application administration OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Experience in instructional technology support in higher education is preferred.NOTE: Position tasks are required to be performed in-person at an Emory University location; working remote is not an option.
