**POSITION OVERVIEW**
The Accelerator Operations and Safety Division is seeking an experienced safety officer to join and assist the Accelerator Division Safety Office (ADSO) team.
The ADSO team provides open and effective communications with other laboratory safety officers and organizations, including the Radiation Protection Department and the System Safety Engineering Division, and serves as advocates and problem-solvers to support the mission of the Accelerator Operations and Safety Division.
As a member of the ADSO team, this person will assist in ensuring that the operation of the accelerator facilities is carried out in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and policies, and that SLAC managers are kept apprised of issues involving the safety of these operations.
**Note:** This is a non-benefits eligible casual-nonexempt position (work less than 50% full-time equivalent), not to exceed 980 hours in a calendar year.
**CORE DUTIES*:**
+ Develop accelerator facility policies and procedures as needed to ensure safe and effective accelerator facility operations.
+ Review safety-related policy and procedure documents, such as Safety Assessment Documents (SADs), Accelerator Safety Envelopes (ASEs), PPS requirements documents and testing procedures.Analyze content in detail and comment as needed to ensure that the resulting material is safe, effective, and practical.
+ Attend meetings in which accelerator operations, upgrades, or maintenance activities are presented, planned, or coordinated to anticipate potential safety issues, and intervene as needed to ensure that such issues are not overlooked.
+ Recommend improvements in processes, design, procedures, and operating equipment to minimize hazards.
+ Anticipate and resolve safety-related issues before they become problems.Remediate hazards, and recommend improvements to minimize risks.
+ Serve as a technical expert to oversee configuration control issues involving accelerator safety systems and potential Unreviewed Safety Issues (USIs).
+ Investigate accidents, incidents, injuries, and complaints of hazards or unsafe conditions in the workplace.Carry out investigations and corrective actions as needed in response to USI, ORPS, or other incidents or conditions that may arise.
+ Maintain open communications with the Radiation Protection staff to ensure that safety requirements are well defined and enforceable, and that the necessary Beam Authorization Sheets (BASs) and other material are ready when needed.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**
+ 10+ years of experience managing safety of accelerator operations.
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team in managing tasks with minimal direction or supervision, along with the demonstrated ability to initiate and follow through on tasks, resolve problems, and apprise management of issues and proposed solutions.
+ Experience with Accelerator Operations at a DOE laboratory
+ Experience with safety system design and testing
+ Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with diverse audiences; ability to explain technical concepts clearly and concisely.
+ Ability to interpret applicable DOE requirements and university policies.
+ Familiarity with SLAC organization, operations, and procedures

_The expected pay range for this position is $23.24 - $66.00 per hour. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position.
