Accelerator Systems Operator I (Bargaining Unit) Job ID 6071 Location SLAC - Menlo Park, CA Full-Time Regular **SLAC Job Postings** SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking an Accelerator Systems Operator I in the Accelerator Operations and Safety Division (AOSD) in the Accelerator Directorate (AD). This position reports to the department head for the accelerator operators. **Specific responsibilities include (but are not limited to):** + Set-up and tune the accelerator to produce beams of the desired energy, current and size to deliver to photon and other physics research experiments using a computerized control system. + Identify abnormalities in beam diagnostic, vacuum, power supply, RF, and computer control systems and initiate corrective actions. + Communicate effectively with physicists, engineers, and the variety of other staff members who build and maintain the accelerator systems. + Ensure accelerator systems are operated in compliance with established safety policies and procedures. + Clear tunnels of personnel and activate safety interlock systems. + Maintain accurate records of operation activities. + Perform accelerator and beam parameter measurements to assist in ongoing development. + Actively participate in and successfully complete required training programs in a timely manner. _* - Other duties may also be assigned_ **To be successful in this position you will bring:** + Bachelor’s degree in physics or engineering with physics coursework, or a combination of education and relevant experience. + Demonstrated ability to initiate projects, develop skills, and work in a team environment under limited supervision. + Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills using various communication systems. + Must possess a valid driver’s license to drive vehicles on site. + Must be physically capable of climbing tall ladders, maneuvering over, under, and around tight spaces, beamlines, large magnets, and other accelerator devices to clear tunnels of personnel. This position will require additional safety training to support these activities. + Ability to work a non-standard schedule and extended shifts. Placement in the range is subject to the applicable Collective Bargaining Unit.
