Accelerator Technologist [Bargaining Unit] Job ID 6219 Location SLAC - Menlo Park, CA Full-Time Regular **SLAC Job Postings** **Position Overview:** The LINAC Coherent Light Source (LCLS) Directorate at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory is seeking an Engineering Technician/Technologist with extensive experience in Vacuum Technology, Electronics and Instrument Controls to join our Technical Support team. Members of this team are responsible for providing support across multiple disciplines for Scientific Users in each of our experimental hutches along with planning for and installing all new or modified systems. The X-ray Instrumentation Technologist provides support to scientists, engineers and scientific users/research across multiple disciplines. This position is expected to be highly proficient and work under limited supervision and support mechanical, vacuum, electronics or instrumentation and controls of moderate to advance complexity. Work may involve complete systems as well as components, modules, or subsystems. An administrative aspect to this position is to train Users to search their hutch, and work in Large Set Up Lab. Work close with the Safety Office and Radiation Physics to administer Radiation Safety Work Control Forms (RSWCF); perform facility walk-throughs identifying safety issues; User experimental support; as well as an array of safety adherence to LCLS procedures. The Technician/Technologist independently plans and conducts a block of work as a complete project, or as a portion of a larger and more diverse project under general supervision with strict adherence to site-specific safety as well as work planning and control (WPC) protocols. Assignments may be of a scheduling and planning nature, coordinating work performed by other individuals, ensuring efficient use of resources and monitoring target dates, coordinating and/or overseeing the work of other technicians, and evaluating possible effects on the end use application of an item, system or process. **Your specific responsibilities include:** + Provide leadership& oversight to the rest of Technical Support. + Ability to administer the safety protocols for safe and reliable beam to the LCLS hutches. + Be proficient in monitoring and operating beam-line safety components and maintainassociated documents and records. + Use of CAD to design and fabricate or 3D print replacement and new parts with little or no oversight. + Perform mechanical repair, precision alignment, and preventive maintenance on equipment following existing Operational & Safety procedures and standards. + Calibrate, repair, rebuild and replace flow, pressure & temperature instruments and devices. + Monitor and perform adjustments to control functions. + Design and build controls systems. + RF knowledge and experience: operating VNA, calculate path losses, setup of transmitting and receiving antennas, and designing systems accordingly. + Maintain equipment operating records and log sheets + Operate and diagnose complex electronic/electrical equipment and solve process problems; capable of independent decision making. + Experience with Beckhoff smart motor trouble shooting. + Knowledge of routing cables and terminating a variety of electrical connections. + Work with experimenters, engineers, physicists, and other groups on the design, installation, modification, and performance of user systems. + Use of oscilloscope function generators. + Perform tests and precision measurements on system components and multiple utility support systems. + Become proficient and improve multiple operator skill sets; seek thorough understanding of Instrumentation & Controls, electrical/electronic principles and hardware and standard vacuum practices. + Assess/troubleshoot complex problems of various disciplines. + Design and fabrication of custom parts by means of Manual and CNC machine tools, 3D printers, etc. + Overhead crane and lifting equipment operation & inspection + Work schedule will include overtime hours, off-shift, alternate work schedules (AWS)weekends & holiday schedules. **To be successful in this position you will bring:** + H.S./GED or vocational school apprenticeship and several years¿ experience in industrial mechanical, electrical, controls, and vacuum systems. College or Technical degree preferred.
