**Description:**
Bilingual- Spanish speaking candidates a bonus.
**POSITION SUMMARY:** Serves as primary scheduler for all patients. Obtains medical insurance and demographic information to schedule and register patients for medical and dental encounters. Documents reason for appointment. Ensures proper classification of patients. Assists patients with scheduling referral appointments. Verifies insurance and program eligibility. Makes pre-appointment reminder calls to patients. Works closely with volunteer physicians and support staff to ensure proper scheduling templates.
_Provides support activities appropriate to ages served; primarily adults ages 18-65 or geriatric patients ages over 65. May also include care for infant age 0-1 year, child ages 1-12 years or adolescent ages 13-17 years._
**EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:** High School graduate or GED. Certification preferred in any of the following areas: medical insurance carriers (Medicare, Medicaid, and Commercial) , patient scheduling, or medical office specialist
**EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:** Minimum of one year experience in customer service or patient relations needed. Excellent interpersonal verbal communication skills necessary. Excellent problem solving skills needed. Experience in a healthcare setting and automated patient scheduling required. Excellent verbal and written communications skills required in both English and Spanish.
**JOB KNOWLEDGE:** The following are required: knowledge of basic office procedures and equipment; medical terminology; understanding of current ICD-9 and CPT coding; computer literacy in word processing and spreadsheets; knowledge of OSHA and HIPAA guidelines; professional written and verbal skills. Must speak and write Spanish fluently.
