What You Will Do: 

Accurately retrieves confidential patient records prior to appointment ensuring all current material is present, scanned, and in chronological order. Schedules patient appointments by phone and face-to-face. Assures that adequate information from referring physician is available prior to initial patient visit. Enters referring physician name in registration.  Provides visit packet including patient calendar of appointments on check out. Accurately checks in patients by verifying patient name and date of birth.  Reviews scheduled appointment, provides HIPAA information, obtains signed consent, verifies patient identification/insurance and demographics, scanning documents, and directs patient to appropriate waiting area. Interviews patients and gathers confidential patient data.  Communicates with Patient Navigator to field insurance needs, problems and questions for patients and providers.  Including, but not limited to informing assigned staff member of tests, drugs, procedures needing preauthorization. Places reminder calls to patients (2) two days before scheduled appointments. Works jointly with University Hospital and Magruder Hospital for patient scheduling and information retrieval. Coordinates multi-disciplinary treatment. Answers incoming calls and/or intercom; screens and communicates messages to the appropriate person.  Logs patient calls and immediately addresses symptom management calls with nurse. Reviews and enters professional billing charges.  Ensures professional charges match physician schedule and documentation.  Ensures charges are complete and submitted as appropriate with correct insurance and demographic information. Communicates with Medical Records and provides complete information for chart audits. Performs vital signs, height/weights, enemas, patient transport, procedure assistance, and other applicable tasks. (This duty does not apply to those hired prior to 7-1-15.) Covers Patient Navigator role when he/she has time off. Communicates effectively to physicians, nursing, and therapy staff. Arranges transportation for patients as needed. Directs patients and families to appointments. Performs routine clerical tasks. Performs other duties, as assigned.

What You Will Need: 

High School graduate, or equivalent.  Experience in a medical setting preferred.  Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Ability to performs vital signs, height/weights, enemas, patient transport, procedure assistance, and other applicable tasks. Ability to type 40 wpm.  Ability to perform basic computer skills. Ability to assist in lifting immobile patients. Ability to handle difficult telephone and face‑to‑face inquiries. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations and ability to read and write small letters and numbers. Ability to maintain neat and orderly files, records and charts. Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively in both written and oral form. Ability to work in a stressful environment.
