Accessibility and Assessment Implementation Coordinator, Darden School of Business

The University of Virginia Darden School of Business, one of the world's leading business schools, seeks a Charlottesville, VA-based Accessibility and Assessment Implementation Coordinator (AAIC). This role supports faculty, staff, and students across our residential and professional degree programs to build, implement, and monitor assessments and make academic content accessible. This position is a part of the Instructional Design team and works closely with the Academic Operations team. The Accessibility and Assessment Implementation Coordinator is a detail-oriented problem solver who excels in providing superb customer service, attending to details while keeping sight of the big picture, and managing change. This role reports to the Director of Instructional Design and Assessment and is a hybrid position with a blend of on-grounds and work-from-home days. 

This is a two-year limited term assignment with full benefits.

Responsibilities: 

Support the delivery of assessments in the Canvas LMS  

Partner with the Instructional Technology and Assessment Implementation Specialist and a variety of Darden teams (Academic Operations, Student Affairs, Digital Solutions and Integrations) to facilitate successful exam experiences for all stakeholders (faculty, students, support teams) 

Prior to each exam period, support Darden faculty members and AOCs in building, reviewing, and administering assessments including mid-course quizzes, final exams and other deliverables via Canvas 

During each exam period, monitor and respond to student tickets, fixing issues and communicating with faculty as needed  

After each exam period, generate reports for faculty, resolve outstanding issues and respond to faculty needs as they grade exams and other deliverables  

Improve processes related to exam implementation and the student and faculty experience 

In collaboration with the Instructional Technology and Assessment Implementation Specialist, provide weekend exam support during Darden’s 20 exam periods (approximately 12 weekends/year for this role) 

Lead accessibility initiatives 

In collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs, develop effective processes and guidelines to support faculty in implementing disability-related course accommodations 

Consult with faculty members to enhance accessibility of course materials, activities and assessments across programs    

Review and revise courses, Canvas templates, and learning technologies to ensure highest levels of accessibility, including proactive remediation of course materials 

Promote research-based and innovative approaches to maximize flexibility, inclusion, and equitable access to learning, including Universal Design for Learning and other inclusive pedagogical approaches 

Maintain and share up to date knowledge of research-based practices in accessible design and digital accessibility  

Monitor and report on Darden’s accessibility efforts  

Support University efforts to promote accessible teaching and learning   

Collaborate with colleagues across Grounds, including with the University’s Coordinator of Academic Accessibility, the Student Disability and Access Center (SDAC), Learning Design and Technology (LDT), and the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) to promote accessible learning experiences 

Education and Professional Experience:

Bachelor's degree required, preferably in Instructional Technology, Education Technology, Instructional Design, or a related field.  Relevant experience may be considered in lieu of a degree 

Two years of learning technology and Canvas learning management system support (instructional design; digital accessibility support; faculty development; teaching, administration, or accessibility and disability support in an educational setting). IAAP certification (e.g. CPACC, WAS) or other digital accessibility qualification preferred  

Experience working in Higher Education preferred  

Familiarity with assistive technologies, digital accessibility, course accommodations, and related standards

Commitment to and knowledge of academic accommodations and digital accessibility 

Calm and effective troubleshooting of technical issues in high-stakes, high-pressure environments 

Demonstrated high level of professionalism, customer service, attention to detail, follow-through, teamwork, flexibility and positive attitude 

Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse educational, cultural and professional backgrounds to establish and maintain strong partnerships and to foster an inclusive environment  

Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills, including listening with empathy to understand and surface needs and the ability to convey complex ideas and potential solutions to a range of stakeholders  

Proficient with Microsoft applications, Canvas LMS, and instructional technologies

Experience in Microsoft Excel with VLOOKUP, Text to Columns, calculations, and sorting data
