Job Title: Accessioner Job Description The Accessioner is responsible for handling all specimens and lab samples in a safe and efficient manner, reviewing specimen packages for complete information, and routing/delivering specimens to the appropriate destination within the lab. This role involves processing various types of specimens such as blood, saliva, urine, and stool, and ensuring accurate data entry into internal system, Touch. Responsibilities + Handle all specimens and lab samples in a safe and efficient manner. + Review specimen packages for complete information. + Route and deliver specimens to the appropriate destination within the lab. + Scan and manually enter specimen and patient information into internal system. + Sort samples into specific bins based on category and lab code. + Maintain an inclusive environment through persistent self-reflection. + Build a culture of care, engagement, and recognition with clear outcomes. Essential Skills + Experience in specimen processing and accessioning. + Proficiency in data entry and laboratory inventory management. + Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. + Excellent written and verbal communication skills. + Ability to work independently or in a team environment. + High level of reliability and positive attendance. Additional Skills & Qualifications + High School Diploma or GED. + Strong work ethic with motivation to meet performance metrics. + Coachable with the ability to take and initiate feedback well. + Positive attitude, hardworking, and takes initiative. Work Environment This role is based at the Halsey Laboratory for Oregon & SW Washington, located at 4400 NE Halsey Street, Building 3, Portland, OR. The lab is a very large diagnostic space, serving as the central lab for all patient samples in Oregon and SW Washington. The environment is fast-paced and high-throughput, with the busiest shift processing samples that need to be returned within a 24–48-hour window.
