Job Description
As an Lab Assistant, you will be an integral part of the specimen accessioning team, actively involved in pre-analytical and post-analytical processes of testing. This role is perfect for individuals looking to start or grow their careers in a lab setting. You will be responsible for receiving incoming samples, logging them into a computer, preparing them for the lab, and managing the storage and disposal of samples.
ResponsibilitiesMeet couriers at the door to receive samples from various locations, including international sources, and start the tracking process.Verify all samples have arrived, inspect for any damage, remove and dispose of packaging, and move samples for entry.Operate multiple computer software systems and remember which software applies to different samples.Verify names on samples match requisitions.Handle primarily urine samples, with some samples including blood, serum, plasma, and body fluids.Create labels and label samples after entry into systems.Sometimes required to aliquot samples, centrifuge, or freeze samples to stabilize them if needed.Manage workflow and maintenance of samples after 3, 6, and 12 months in walk-in refrigerators and freezers.Essential SkillsHigh School Diploma (preference towards a Bachelor's in Science Degree)Desire to advance within the labIntermediate computer, typing, and 10-key skillsAbility to prioritize and manage multiple tasksHigh degree of accuracy and attention to detailAbility to work in a fast-paced production environment to meet established turnaround timesAdditional Skills & QualificationsExperience in banking, serving, or other customer service jobsExperience in lab environments, sample preparation, forensic science, quality control, material handling, and phlebotomy
Pay Rate: $16.50/hr
