Job Title: Accountant
Job Description

Under direct supervision, the Accountant I is responsible for performing general ledger and related accounting functions for multiple funds, enterprises, and departments owned or administered by the organization. You will maintain confidentiality of all privileged information and generate accurate financial reports to various departments and agencies.

ResponsibilitiesDevelop and maintain working relationships with Program Managers and Directors of assigned funds, enterprises, or departments.Prepare account analysis of specific accounts.Prepare bank reconciliations.Assist accounting clerks in daily maintenance of accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, purchase orders, encumbrances, and check requests.Prepare accurate monthly financial reports.Schedule and prepare financial reports required by funding agencies.Act as departmental supervisor in the absence of the Finance Director.Use MIP accounting software and Microsoft Office software to maintain the general ledger and related journals in accurate and timely order.Compile reports showing statistics of receipts, expenditures, accounts payable and receivable, profit and loss, fund balance, and other items pertinent to business or administration operations.Review and approve purchase order requests and check requests.Review receiving reports and match to purchase orders to close/complete purchase orders or process partial payments.Prepare and execute reimbursement requests and draw requests.Apply Policies and Procedures consistently when approving or authorizing transactions.Reconcile bank statements, credit card reports, general ledger accounts, and other data, accurately tying detailed information to ledger totals.Create and generate spreadsheets as required.Prepare and send monthly, quarterly, and yearly financial reports.Assist with fixed assets as needed.Assist in supply inventory and ordering.Maintain professional and technical knowledge by conducting research, attending seminars, educational workshops, classes, and conferences; reviewing professional publications; establishing networks; participating in professional societies; and conferring with representatives of contracting agencies and related organizations.Contribute to a team effort and accomplish related results as needed.Essential SkillsBachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or other related field.Two years of experience in general ledger accounting with a governmental entity or for multiple companies owned by one organization, or two years as an Accountant Entry Level.Knowledge of traditional forms of government and tribal customs and traditions.Knowledge of payroll practices, policies, procedures, and reporting requirements.Knowledge of bookkeeping and record-keeping practices.Knowledge of business English, proper spelling, grammar, punctuation, and basic arithmetic.Knowledge of computerized general ledger accounting systems.Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.Ability to interpret applicable federal, state, county, and local laws, regulations, and requirements.Skill in operating business computers and office machines, including in a Windows environment, specifically Word, Excel, Access, and presentation software (such as PowerPoint).Skill in preparing, reviewing, and analyzing operational and financial reports.Additional Skills & QualificationsExperience with governmental accounting or fund accounting.Ability to learn or operate MIP fund accounting software application.Intermediate Excel skills.Knowledge of Government Contracts and funding concepts or ability to learn.Work Environment

The work schedule is from 8am-5pm with some flexibility on start and end times once through training. There is an option to work 1-2 days from home, provided you are proficient with grants. The organization offers up to 40 medical plans to choose from, with 75% of the cost of the benchmark plan covered. There is a 401k match up to 4%, PTO accrual for nonexempt employees at 4 hours per pay period, and 26 days of PTO per year for exempt employees. All federal holidays are paid, with an additional floater holiday. Dress code is business casual.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.99 - $34.49
