4 Year Degree The Rams Club is seeking an accountant to assist with our mission of providing world-class educational and athletic opportunities for Carolina student-athletes. As one of the most highly successful athletic fundraising organizations in the country, The Rams Club raised over $600 million for Carolina’s student athletes and coaches in the last University-wide fundraising campaign that recently ended in December 2022. The accountant assists with the recording and analysis of financial transactions, detailed tracking of expenses related to multi-million-dollar capital projects and related debt financing, the annual audit and tax returns, reconciliation of investments and preparing and analyzing the budget. This position will report directly to the Senior Director of Finance as a member of the Finance team at The Rams Club and will work closely with other teams within the Rams Club, the Department of Athletics, and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. This position is an exempt, 40 hours per week, in-office position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Update reports for ongoing and recently completed capital facility projects which currently total in excess of $100 million and other special projects. Reconcile and record activity for investments currently totaling in excess of $475 million. Review monthly fundraising reports ensuring accuracy of new transactions. Prepare & reconcile quarterly reports of endowment and sport endowment gifts and reconcile for investment in endowments. Keep accurate & updated records of transactions due to/from UNC Athletics. Prepare annual operating budget of approximately $20 million & keep responsible staff informed quarterly of budget to actual analysis. Assist with standard journal entries and annual audit journal entries as requested. Assist with audit fieldwork and preparation of audited financial statements for The Educational Foundation Scholarship Endowment Trust and The Educational Foundation, Inc. as requested by Senior Director of Finance. Assist with the preparation of schedules for the 990 returns. Assist CFO and Senior Director of Finance with various other financial tasks as requested.NECESSARY SKILLS
Strong accounting background and Excel skills essential. Attention to detail and accuracy. Proficient computer skills, including experience with: Word, Microsoft Teams, Microsoft Outlook, Zoom, and Adobe Acrobat. Positive attitude and willingness to go above prescribed responsibilities. Excellent time management skills and ability to prioritize work tasks. Ability to interact, write, speak, and communicate clearly with our donors and constituents, while portraying a professional image and demeanor. Willingness to work overtime and holidays as necessary.REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Four-year degree required. Emphasis in Accounting or Business beneficial. Masters of Accounting degree beneficial. 1-2 years’ work experience in an accounting or finance role is preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is beneficial. Nonprofit accounting knowledge beneficial. Familiarity with athletic fundraising and membership benefits beneficial.
