This position also performs detail work regarding the generation and issuance of internal and external financial reports: Balance Sheet, Income Statement, and Statement of Cash Flows. Also assists company-wide personnel with the financial business systems. All duties are to be performed within the guidelines of the Seneca Gaming Corporation’s policies and procedures, Internal Control Standards and objectives. The Accountant III may, alternatively, be primarily responsible for the Construction Accounting essential functions listed below reporting to manager level or above. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES : + Assist completion of the month end general ledger close: + Prepare and enter general ledger journal entries; + Analyze accrued expense accounts for proper period recording under GAAP; + Review and post Staff Accountant journal entries; + Review and report on significant variances noted during the closing process; + Prepare and review monthly internal general ledger reports for distribution to operations management and Senior Management; + Prepare/review all general ledger account reconciliations, monthly; + Ensure preparation of other department(s) general ledger account reconciliations through maintenance of the monthly reconciliation checklist; + Investigate/implement continuous process improvement through automation, where practicable. + Attend and transcribe minutes for monthly financial review meeting with operating departments. Analyze department budget vs. actual variance response. + Prepare quarterly financial statement analytics for external auditors. + Assist in the completion of the monthly, quarterly and annual Management Discussion and Analysis. + Assist in the completion of the quarterly reviewed financial statements for the external auditors, including all footnotes. + Assist in the completion of the annual audited financial statements for the external auditors including all footnotes and audit schedules/auditor requests. + Perform daily cash processing backup duties, as required. + Demonstrate the ability to create and maintain financial models and analysis upon request with minimal direction. + Provide analytical and/or consultative support, from a Financial Accounting perspective, for other departments or focus groups/committees as needed. + Responsible for testing Infinium and related software upgrades and/or conversions. + Adjust work schedule as necessary in order to meet all mandatory reporting requirements. + Answer inquiries for Senior Management and Department Heads regarding account activity. + Assist in training and development of Accountant I and II. + Prepare and reconcile all Intercompany activity. + Effectively coordinate and manage inventory observations with Team members from Finance and other departments. + Perform/maintain all systemic allocations of corporate departments to other entities. + Review construction project activities including: + Invoices and AIA billings, + Purchase orders, + Change Orders, + Financial terms of contracts, + Compliance with contract terms and conditions, and + Construction Close-out documentation + Assist in daily, monthly, quarterly and year-end construction accounting on a timely basis. + Prepare Project Cost Reports which include: + Identification of proposed and actual change orders, + Job cost commitments, + Billing Status, + Actual to Budget status, and + Potential accounting issues. + Assist Design & Construction team in: + Establishing accounting and job cost structures for each project, + Assessing appropriate accounting treatment of construction costs and + Tracking capital purchases. + Review Capital Expenditure reports which includes: + Actual to Budget status and, + Commitments and Payments, + Cash Flow requirements. + Provide detailed information regarding costs attributed to projects. + Maintain the fixed asset records for each capital project, including accounting for the purchase of construction in process in accordance with company policies and maintaining sufficient records to ensure that each purchase is adequately substantiated. + Assist with maintaining and managing fixed asset system and related reporting requirements over capital expenditures. + Evaluate financial return for capital requests. + Review and post key capital accrual/entries as needed. + Maintain in-depth knowledge and adheres to departmental policies and procedures. + Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements. + Meet the attendance guidelines of the job and adhere to regulatory, departmental, and company policies. + Inform supervisor as necessary. + Attend all necessary meetings. + Assist in other projects, as directed. + Duties, responsibilities, requirements and expectation s pertaining to this job are subject to change as needed. + Hours are determined by 24-hour schedule. Position Requirements Each position has varying minimum qualifications. In the absence of fully qualified candidates, some requirements may be waived. Education/Experience: + Must be 18 years of age or older upon employment. + Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related area is required. + CPA/MBA preferred. + Three (3) to five (5) years accounting experience with a general ledger is required, including an understanding of construction project accounting, construction contract and construction project management and reporting: including AIA billings, change orders, OCIP, and construction terms and applications. + Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is required. + Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills are required. + Gaming accounting experience is preferred. + Experience with Infinium, Showcase, and/or other accounting software packages preferred. + Successful candidate must be an experienced, results oriented, and hands-on professional. + Ability to read, analyze and interpret complicated documents, such as technical journals, financial and statistical reports and legal documents with an ability to respond to complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. + Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions and provide solutions. + Must demonstrate leadership, fairness, and sensibility to all customers and employees. Language Skills and Reasoning Ability: + Must possess excellent communication skills. + Ability to write routine correspondence and to speak effectively to the public, employees and customers. + Must have the ability to deal effectively and interact well with the customers and employees. + Must have the ability to resolve problems/conflicts in a diplomatic and tactful manner.
