Accounting Assistant

Play a lead role in the daily administration and support of the accounting and financial reporting functions within the finance department. Access online banking platforms to record and reconcile transactions. Assist accounts payable and accounting staff with daily tasks, month close, reporting, and other accounting related projects.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned. (The listed duties are the core tasks and responsibilities of the position:)

Maintain daily banking activity, prepare bank deposits.

Verify accuracy of non-patient deposits and credits; reconcile to financial systems.

Support month-end financial close process, including preparing journal entries, financial statements, reports, reconciliations, and ad-hoc requests.

Prepare annual company documents, such as Unclaimed Property records, Business Privilege Tax, Sales/Use Tax filing, and escheatment.

Assist Accounts Payable representatives with review of aged invoices, supplier statements, and discrepancies.

Optimize process improvements and documentation; monitor compliance with company procedures.

Maintain records to support lease accounting.

Assist with special projects, as necessary.

A.           Education/Experience:

Associate degree with at least one year related experience and/or training preferred. Working knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices.

B.           Language Ability:

Must be able to read, write English and have the ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization.

C.           Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. 

D.           Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several variables in standardized and unusual situations.

E.           Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should be proficient in using Microsoft Office products in addition to various other software products including the Laboratory Information System.

F.           Certificates and Licenses:

No certifications required.
