Accounting Manager 1.0 FTE
SCHEDULE FTE: 1.0 PRIMARY FUNCTIONS Compiles financial information, processes journal entries into various accounts, and reconciles reports and financial data. Applies the principles of accounting within an assigned area of accounting or group of funds and maintains knowledge of the hospital’s financial accounting systems. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES + General Ledger: + Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. + Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts. + Reconciles sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolves discrepancies. + Financial Reporting: + Compiles financial information and assists in the preparation of reports as requested. + Provides information to Chief Financial Officer as requested, explaining accounting transactions and resolving accounting issues and discrepancies. + Audit / Cost Report + Prepares reports and schedules for external financial auditors as required. + Serves as primary contact during on-site financial audit process. + Budgeting + Assists in coordination of the organizations’ budgeting process, working with various departments as needed. + Supporting Functions: + Provides support and assistance to the payroll functions, acting as a backup when needed. + Reviews payroll and accounts payable process in progress, edits and provides internal control for transfer of funds to appropriate accounts. + Professional Development / Technology: + Keeps abreast and applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations that apply to a particular function or field of expertise to verify documents for completeness and maintain compliance with government and private agencies. + Assists in applying current technology to help solve various problems for all hospital departments. Uses various software applications such as spreadsheets, relational databases, and statistical packages to produce and/or format data and reports. + Other Responsibilities: + Prepares reports for Waverly Health Center Foundation, including reconciliation of outstanding pledges and quarterly financial reports. + Gather and complete the necessary information for WHC Foundation and Auxiliary 990 tax reporting forms. MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES + Cost Awareness: Develops, understands, and manages departmental budget. Ensures that budgetary concerns are communicated to the Chief as needed. + Employee Performance: Identifies performance expectations and ensures that employees understand those expectations and are held accountable in meeting the expectations. Assesses employee performance in a timely manner and works with employees to resolve performance issues. Takes timely and appropriate disciplinary actions. Acknowledges employee accomplishments. + Organizational Policies: Communicates and enforces Waverly Health Center policies. Develops policies and procedures essential to the operation of the department in compliance with regulatory requirements. + Staffing: Creates and maintains departmental job descriptions. Builds a team with diverse skills and strengths by selecting the best candidate for each position. Develops effective staffing patterns to meet departmental needs. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS + Education, Experience, and Training + Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related field required. + Previous experience in healthcare accounting preferred. + Previous management experience preferred. + Must have strong computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, etc. + Ability to learn and navigate computer systems including the online training modules, the employee timesheet and the performance appraisal system. Job specific systems are also required. + Must be able to read, speak, and write fluent English. + Physical Requirements + Sitting –Approximately 100% of shift. + Standing – Not a requirement. + Walking – Not a requirement. + Lifting – Not a requirement. + Twisting – Not a requirement. + Bending – Infrequent. + Squat/Kneel – Not a requirement.
