Job Summary

As part of the Finance Team, the Accounting Manager reports to the Controller and will oversee the comprehensive functional responsibility of the Accounting Department.  This includes managing, training, and supervising team members, overseeing processes and workflows to assure all transactions are properly accounted, in addition to accurate and timely reporting. The role requires broad-based experience of full charge bookkeeping, accounting information systems, and development of financial statements. A successful individual in this position will demonstrate a strong understanding of accounting principles that is integrated with ongoing development, internally within the department, and externally to other departments and stakeholders.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities and essential functions include but are not limited to the following:

Responsible for coordinating scheduling requirements of department personnel.

Manage and assign workflows among department team members.

Work closely with the Controller in assuring department objectives and responsibilities are fulfilled. 

Act as liaison to all resort departments to establish collaborative processes with a focus on continued development.

Create detailed procedures for department processes and workflows.

Manage the monthly accounting close process, workflows, and schedule.

Perform ongoing related tasks to support the greater financial strategy of the business.

Basic Qualifications:

This is an in-person position located at Killington Resort.

A bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, or related field.

A minimum of five years’ experience working in an accounting team environment.

Expert knowledge of accounting information systems and working with multiple sub-systems to develop the general ledger.

Strong written and verbal communication skills including presentations- experience with facilitating group meetings.

Management skills rooted in performance and coaching- ability to give and receive feedback.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Contemporary knowledge of accounting information systems with a focus on managing the general ledger. 

Credit card processing; understanding of systems and accounting interactions (banking, chargebacks, fraud monitoring, etc.)

Experience with e-commerce; managing information from multiple systems to build general ledger transactions.

Account reconciliations; all balance sheet accounts.

Working knowledge of lease accounting.

Capital expenditures; working accounts and fixed assets.

State of Vermont taxation; Meals & Rooms and Sales & Use.

Expert user of Excel.

Managing accounting schedules; deferred revenue and prepaid expenses.

Comprehensive knowledge of best practices: Accounts Receivable and Accounts Payable

Ability to build relations with other departments- collaborative development of accounting workflows and processes.

Knowledge of GAAP.

Financial close experience- monthly, quarterly, annual, and associated review practices and processes.

Review historical ledgers to understand current workflows, responsibilities of department team members, and general business of the resort.
