\n \n Job Description

The Accounting Manager at the Gaithersburg Branch is responsible for managing the daily operations of the Accounting department by participating in the monthly closings, assisting with and completing the preparation of the monthly profit and loss statements, and maintaining Balance Sheet schedules and subsidiary ledgers. This is a high-volume position having full responsibility for a portfolio of Financial Statements. This position is also responsible for the supervision of 3 staff accountants, AR and AP invoice processing and operating and investment account banking for our clients.

This is a Full-time position based in Gaithersburg, MD and one workday remote per week is considered with approval but working in-office is expected the majority of the time.

Daily tasks:

\n\nApplies principles of modified accrual accounting to analyze financial information and prepare financial reports by compiling information, preparing profit and loss statements and utilizing appropriate accounting control procedures.\nReconciles balance sheet accounts, posting adjusting entries when necessary.\nIdentity, research, resolve and communicate accounting, auditing, and operational issues.\nInteracts with external auditors to complete audits of year-end financial statements.\nOversee the posting and maintenance of general ledger accounts, payroll transactions, accounts payable and general ledger adjustments.\nAssist Director of Management Services with special projects to facilitate the effective functioning of the Accounting department.\nManage training of staff including preparation of reviews for staff accountants, bookkeepers and other supervisory actions needed.\nOther duties as assigned.\n\n Requirements\nBachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.\n5+ years of general ledger accounting and financial reporting experience, preferably in the property management industry.\nKnowledge and proficiency of Finance, Accounting, Budgeting, and Cost Control Principles including Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.\nExperience working with Auditors is critical.\nKnowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) at a proficient level.\nAbility to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.\nSelf-motivated, detailed-oriented, takes initiative. Ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently. Strong follow through skills.\nExcellent communications and interpersonal skills. Ateam player.\nAbility to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information\nStrong listening skills with the ability to discern what a client is asking for versus what they need.
