Position Summary
The Accounting Manager is responsible for modeling the Compassus values of Compassion, Integrity, Excellence, Teamwork, and Innovation and for promoting the Compassus philosophy, using the 6 Pillars of Success as the foundation. S/he is responsible for upholding the Code of Ethical Conduct and for promoting positive working relationships within the company, among all departments, and all external stakeholders. The Accounting Manager is directly responsible for management of the financial close process and the preparation of financial statements while ensuring the appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles. The Accounting Manager is also responsible for applying other rules and regulations promulgated by state and federal regulatory agencies and other certified agencies. The duties of this position include supervision of the Accounting team, while working in close collaboration with the Director of Accounting & Reporting and the Corporate Controller, to assure the delivery of quality services and support to other organizational functions and leaders. A further key responsibility of this position is to identify and drive improvement opportunities in the Accounting and Reporting function.
Position Specific Responsibilities
Supports the Director of Accounting and Reporting with the timely close of month-end and year-end accounting processes, systems, and records.Ensures the appropriate application of generally accepted accounting principles and other applicable rules and regulations. Completes research of technical accounting issues under such guidelines.Leads Accounting team members in the delivery of quality services in accordance with corporate and business unit strategies and requirements.Ensures compliance with internal policies and controls and with external regulations.Identifies and drives process improvement opportunities and works closely with the Director of Accounting and Reporting in promoting positive change throughout the Accounting function and the Company.Assists with the facilitation and management of internal and external audit processes.Assists with the integration of accounting processes and systems for consummated acquisitions and mergers.Performs other duties as assigned.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance or Accounting required.Minimum of five (5) years of relevant work experience required.Management/leadership experience strongly preferred.Broad based experience with accounting and financial systems and related processes. Workday Financial experience preferred.
Skills
Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentage.Language Skills: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from leaders, team members, investors, and external parties. Strong written and verbal communications.Other Skills and Abilities: Strong organizational and time management skills. Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include nights and weekends. Individual is expected to further his/her knowledge of accounting rules and best practices and general business practices through attendance of seminars and professional meetings. Ability to understand, read, write, and speak English. Articulates and embraces hospice philosophy. Excellent understanding of end-to-end transaction activities and workflows across accounting processes. Knowledge of financial systems (e.g., general ledger, accounts payable, fixed assets, financial reporting tools). Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles. Knowledge of requirements and best practices associated with internal control, compliance and audit. General understanding of taxation – income, property, sales & use – and related accounting workflows. Strong knowledge of GAAP and strong internal controls. Ability to execute and follow-through to completion and documentation. Ability to make presentations to and train team members.
Certifications, Licenses, and Registrations
Certified Public Accountant license preferred.
Physical Demands and Work Environment: The demands of this role necessitate a team member to effectively perform essential functions.
