Penquis, a social services agency serving Penobscot, Piscataquis, and Knox counties for over 50 years, is currently seeking a dedicated full-time (40 hours per week; benefits eligible) Accounting Manager. As the Accounting Manager you assist the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and Finance Director in several functional areas and carry routine operating responsibility for cash, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable. The position is based out of the Bangor office. Location: Bangor, Maine Accounting Manager Responsibilities + Supervisor of assigned accounting staff, which may include the following functions, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, and general ledger, oversee and coordinate daily activities in coordination with the Finance Director. + Provide financial management support to all staff as required and work closely with the Chief Financial Officer, Finance Director, Executive Leadership Staff, and Managers to ensure a smooth-running accounting office supporting agency requirements. + Assist in establishing accounting policies and procedures with the Chief Financial Officer and Finance Director to provide sound internal accounting controls and safeguarding of agency assets. + Audit standard operating procedure workflows to ensure that all accounting transactions are appropriately authorized. + Assist Chief Financial Officer and Finance Director and others with routine tasks. Accounting Manager Requirements: + Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field, and 5-7 years of related work experience in accounting. + Three to five years supervisory experience in a busy office. + Able to work independently, show initiative, provide leadership, prioritize multiple projects, meet deadlines, and thrive in a fast-paced diversified workplace. + Experience in computerized accounting software to include payroll, general ledger, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. + Computer proficiency, including excellent spreadsheet and word processing skills. + Upon hire and periodically thereafter, must comply with Penquis background check requirements with satisfactory results as outlined in current contact provisions.
