Accounting Supervisor

Responsible for supervision and accounting control over a group of Accountants within assigned area.

Interprets financial transactions and events for users who must make business decisions. Records, classifies, and summarizes financial transactions and events in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Applies a working knowledge of applicable laws and regulations; verifies documents for completeness and compliance. Initiates and processes journal entries into various accounts. Reconciles sub-ledgers to the general ledger and resolves differences. Provides information to individuals or organizations outside of the company; explains accounting transactions; resolves accounting issues and discrepancies. Uses various software applications, such as spreadsheets, databases, statistical packages, and graphics packages to assemble, manipulate and/or format data and/or reports. Knows the formal and informal departmental goals, standards, policies and procedures which may include some familiarity of other departments within the division. Is sensitive to the interrelationship of both people and functions within the department. On a regular and continuous basis, exercises administrative judgment and assumes responsibility for decisions, consequences, and results having an impact on people, costs, and/or quality of service within the functional area. Directs the activities of two or more full-time staff with authority to hire, fire, and discipline. Oversees individual employee development and training, and conducts performance appraisals. Exchanges non-routine information using tact and persuasion as appropriate requiring good oral and written communication skills. Supervises controls the activities related to the assigned function Comply with key controls in accordance with Sarbanes Oxley guidelines. Oversees the assignment of duties, and responsibilities to employees  Performs related duties as required.  This position description in no way states or implies that these are the only duties to be performed by the employee occupying this position.  Employees will be required to perform any other job-related duties assigned by their supervisor or management.

Experience:

Minimum of five years accounting experience preferable within the healthcare industry. Ability to work on various assignments simultaneously. Ability to manage a staff in a positive and productive manner by motivating, developing and managing employees as they work Ability to utilize and administer the disciplinary action process through coaching and counseling to improve performance or terminate employment Ability to communicate tactfully, verbally and in writing with department heads, managers, coworkers and vendors to resolve problems and negotiate resolutions Working knowledge of computers, internet access, and the ability to navigate within an automated system as well as a variety of software packages such as Excel and Word.   

Education: 

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent preferred.

 

Certification & Licensure:

CPA license preferred
