The University of Maine System's Strategic Procurement Department is seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Accounting Support Specialist CL2 to join the Accounts Payable team. This role involves performing a variety of moderately diverse accounting support tasks, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger reconciliation, and budget monitoring. The successful candidate will apply general knowledge of accounting functions to ensure compliance with university policies, and state and federal regulations.
Key Responsibilities Include:
+ Handling verbal and written communications regarding account-related inquiries and issues.
+ Receiving invoices, check requests, and other forms electronically for coding and processing.
+ Ensuring accuracy in coding expenses and assigning department/account codes to invoices.
+ Data entry and review, including verifying the accuracy of data processing for account information on electronic forms.
+ Problem-solving and research.
+ Providing excellent customer service to the University of Maine System community and outside vendors.
+ Communicating with vendors regarding account issues and maintaining a professional relationship.
This is a remote position, however, if the successful candidate prefers to be onsite, the position will be located on the University of Maine Orono campus. All required computer equipment will be provided. The hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM. This position reports to the Payables Manager and is an integral part of a dynamic team.
Salary: The starting wage for this position is $18.86 (non-negotiable) for a new hire or the appropriate transfer rate for a current employee ACSUM/COLT unit member with the University of Maine System.

Qualifications
Required:
+ High School diploma or equivalent education and job-related experience
+ A minimum of two years of accounting support experience
+ Experience with data entry and web-based programs
+ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
+ Excellent written and verbal communication skills
+ Solid math and problem-solving skills
+ Ability to work independently and as part of a team
+ Strong computer skills and experience using spreadsheet software such as MS Excel
+ Strong customer service skills
+ Adapts well to change
Preferred:
+ Associate degree
+ Accounting skills and experience
+ PeopleSoft, SciQuest, and other ERP experience
