Accounting Technician 1 – Accounts Payable

Summary:
This position is responsible for various accounting support functions at the Alaska SeaLife Center.
Education/Training Requirements:
Minimum of two years experience in a similar position. Accounting knowledge is required, accounts payable (A/P) experience is preferred. Microsoft Excel skills and maintaining confidentiality is required. Must possess skills in time management, organization, prioritization, customer service, attention to detail, and oral and written communication.
Essential Duties:
1. Process invoices, vouchers, and check requests on a weekly basis. Reconcile monthly vendor statements.
2. Communicate with vendors to resolve questions/problems and requests additional documentation as needed. Serve as a contact person for A/P vendors and their account activity, including the setup of new account contracts and negotiation of terms.
3. Maintains organized files of A/P documents both paper and electronic as required.
4. Record purchase orders. Prepare and distribute necessary reports for purchase orders in a timely manner.
5. Prepare and review W-9 and 1099’s.
6. Communicate with credit Card customer service to respond to changes in corporate credit cards. Record monthly corporate credit card reconciliation data.
7. Prepare monthly journal entry activity to record internal processes, including deferred revenue.
8. Maintain inventory files and records transactions for central supply and animal food.
9. Fosters good relations with visitors, volunteers, community leaders, contractors, vendors, clients, and
fellow staff members by promoting positive attitudes, good will, cooperation, and providing high
standards of service.
10. Complies with all Alaska SeaLife Center policies, procedures, and programs.
11. Performs other related duties as assigned.
