Description We are seeking an Accounts Payable Clerk to join our team in the government sector, located in Hampton, Virginia. This role will involve handling authorization for payment, liaising between various departments, and managing vendor relations. This position offers a long-term contract employment opportunity. Responsibilities: • Accurately process authorization for payments and departmental requisitions • Act as a liaison between different departments to ensure efficient completion of purchases and payments • Serve as the primary point of contact for vendors and staff to expedite invoice payments • Generate purchase orders for goods and services within authorized limits • Submit documentation for payment in accordance with procurement policies and procedures • Prepare invoices for receivables on all current contracts • Maintain comprehensive vendor files with all necessary documentation for procurement and payment of invoices • Use the operating/software system to track the status of all pending purchase orders and requisitions • Gather information required for monthly, quarterly, and annual accountability reports • Carry out other related tasks as needed. Requirements • Proficiency in Accounts Payable (AP) functions and procedures • Demonstrated ability in data entry • Experience in coding invoices • Understanding and knowledge of governmental accounting standards • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion • Strong attention to detail and accuracy • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills • Good communication skills, both written and verbal • Proficiency in using accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite • Ability to work independently and as part of a team • Compliance with governmental financial regulations • Ability to meet deadlines and manage time effectively • Willingness to continuously improve and update accounting skills and knowledge.
