Position Purpose

The purpose of the Accreditation and Risk Management Specialist is to facilitate regulatory and risk management activities, in collaboration with the health care team members at MercyOne Sioux City that ensures compliance, enhances patient safety, and minimizes liability exposure.

The specialist role is a lead resource in the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) regulatory requirements as well as The Joint Commission (TJC) standards. In addition, the specialist assists with planning, coordinating, and implementing systems and processes to mitigate risk, and prevent harm to customers as well as protect ministry assets.

To ensure an effective implementation and support of the accreditation and risk management plan/program, the specialist works in collaboration with local leadership (President, Chief Operating Officer (COO), Chief Nursing Officer (CNO), and Chief Medical Officer (CMO)).

What you will Do

 Coordinates and administers ministry-wide standard assessments using tracer methodology to identify opportunities for improvement with standards and Conditions of Participation (CoPs).Performs audits and inspects patient care areas and works collaboratively with the health care team to ensure compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies.Proactively engages in survey readiness activities and facilitates TJC on-site survey activities.Serves as a resource in the areas of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)  and The Joint Commission (TJC), and participates in unannounced surveys.Coordinates and administers ministry-wide systems for risk identification, investigation, and   reduction.Maintains a network of informational sources and experts.Performs risk assessment surveys in collaboration with the health care team addressing findings with actions that are monitored and sustained.Proactively engages in risk reduction activities. Maintains the risk management plan/program in order to efficiently provide services across the ministry and minimize exposure to general and professional liability events.

 

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in nursing, health administration or related field required. Iowa licensure as a Registered Nurse. Minimum three (3) to five (5) years experience in a health care setting.  Risk management, CPHRM and/or performance improvement experience desired. Regulatory, TJC, CPHQ and/or performance improvement experience desired. Leadership experience in clinical and professional practice is preferred.Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Must be effective in presenting information to different audiences including senior management, governance, medical staff and associates. Must be proficient in use of Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and the Internet.
Special Skills, Competencies, and Aptitudes:Demonstrated expertise in the use of performance improvement methodology/tools.Must be able to use computers for documentation and other relevant activities. Demonstrates specific knowledge related to software programs such as event reporting systems, government reporting systems, and other appropriate software programs. Experience with computer applications such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), HealthStream, Intranet, and use of reporting tools. Helpful to have experience with PowerChart/EPIC or similar tool.
