Acoustics LeadOverview of Role:Liquid Robotics is seeking an Acoustics Lead to join our team in the development of autonomous-ocean-robot-based, persistent, sensing solutions. This position will be responsible for developing technical solutions to complex acoustic sensing problems that require ingenuity and creativity, which are enabled by the Wave Glider USV. By joining our small but highly-motivated team, you will be helping us achieve our goals by participating in engineering design activities and working with cross-functional teams to deliver world-changing products. The successful candidate will bring significant design and product life-cycle experience to the role, will be motivated by our vision to change the world, and will be excited to work in a dynamic, small-company environment. This role reports directly to our Head of Engineering as part of our development team. This position is staffed out of our headquarters/design center located in Herndon, Virginia, but strong candidates will be considered for a hybrid work arrangement with regular travel required.  Essential Responsibilities:Work with customers to understand custom acoustic sensing needs and define requirements Work with engineering team (systems, hardware, and software) to develop an acoustic sensing design that meets customer needs Lead the creation of hardware/software/algorithm specifications based on user requirementsParticipate in concept and design reviewsSupport the development and delivery of solution-specific training to customersDesign and baseline underwater acoustic test plans and lead their implementation and execution in the fieldPrepare reports on sensing effectiveness and system performance, including data analysis, data interpretation, results obtained, and recommendations on next stepsKey Attributes: Ability to think analytically Strong technical skills in most of the following: acoustics, RADAR and/or SONAR signal processing, algorithm development, detection and estimation theory, wave propagation, and data analysis In depth knowledge of the marine environment and its advantages and disadvantages related to acoustic sensingDetailed understanding of passive SONAR principles and their application in dynamic ocean environments (i.e., shallow-depth, towed arrays)Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in a science or engineering field At least nine years direct experience in developing passive acoustic sensing solutions. Preference given for experience related to the design of maritime acoustic sensing solutions in general and acoustic sensing solutions for uncrewed platforms in particular Experience with acoustic analysis softwareExperience conducting acoustic propagation modellingExperience in the design and specification of acoustic arrays, with towed arrays being preferredExceptional verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills Must be US PersonMust meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
