PURPOSE OF THE JOB

The Masonite (division of Owens Corning) Acoustics Product Development and Research Engineer will partner with key technical, manufacturing, and business partners to identify, define, coordinate, and execute on the development and testing of new residential door solutions with a key focus on acoustical performance. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with all OC/Masonite Safety and NVLAP requirements. This role is also responsible for the coaching and mentoring of associate scientists, engineers, technicians, and contractors to deliver on the goals of the OC Doors business. The Acoustics Product Development and Research Engineer will assist in representing Owens Corning to both external standards communities, trade organizations, and customers as applicable.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Living Safely

Leads and participates in regular safety meetings and ensures rigorous compliance to standard safety procedures and OC/Masonite corporate policies.Leads the development and maintenance of safety documents and organizational flow for the Masonite Acoustics Laboratory and acoustical door prototyping cells.Focuses on sustaining a safe work environment for self and co-workers.

Product Development Strategy

Develops and supports the execution of short & long-term acoustic product development plans and innovation proposals aligned with business strategy.Leverage knowledge and information from testing and experimentation to provide insights into the development of new products and hypotheses for solving complex problems.Partners with external customers in creating and leading testing and providing analysis of results that separate Masonite products from the rest of the door industry.Develops into a respected Subject Matter Expert of acoustics, noise, and vibration across all door industry platforms, leveraging internal and external mentors including the Owens Corning Acoustical Principal Scientist.

Lab Leadership

Manage and expand the knowledge base and product offering of the residential door acoustic product portfolio as necessary to support business opportunities and strategic growth initiatives.Identify opportunities and provide testing solutions in support of new product launches and expanded acoustic portfolio opportunities, including but not limited to configuration assessments and improvement of in-field demonstration of door system performance.Identifies opportunities to develop test methods to improve safety, data quality, or efficiency.Leads the efforts to maintain and improve lab quality and process documentation to support a high standard and quality of work.Cultivates and curates key relationships with customers and in partnership with the Owens Corning Acoustic Research Center.

Continued Individual Development

Develops into a respected Subject Matter Expert of acoustics, noise, and vibration across all door industry platforms leveraging internal and external mentors including the Owens Corning Acoustical Principal Scientist.Provides leadership in selected consensus standards committees (WDMA, ASTM, ASA, INCE, etc.) to curate standards that impact Owens Corning and the Masonite brand.Builds cross-business relationships to help identify opportunities for growth in fundamental testing, and initiates research to develop in these areas. 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

B.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Acoustical Engineering, Physics, or similar field2+ years of product research and development, preferably in building materials or related industriesExperience in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) analysis and mitigationProven track record of identifying technical opportunities and developing product solutions from concept to productionAbility to travel 10%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience leading people/small teams4+ years of experience in noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) field with experience in ISO9001, ASTM, and international standardsPassion for innovation and problem-solving in the field of acousticsExperience with B&K Pulse software or equivalent software
