ACT for Youth Evaluation Assistant
Cornell Human Ecology explores the complexity of human life. The ACT for Youth Center for Community Action (ACT CCA) / Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs Center of Excellence (ACT CYSHCN COE) is housed in the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research (BCTR), which is located within Cornell University’s College of Human Ecology. The BCTR mission is to improve professional and public efforts to understand and deal with risk and protective factors in the lives of children, youth, families, and communities that affect family strength, child wellbeing, and youth development. Translational research, as defined by the College and the BCTR, is the systematic application of research findings into the development of innovative interventions, practices, and policies that may ultimately improve health and well-being. The knowledge derived from these interventions feeds future research.

The goal of the ACT for Youth is to advance positive youth development and adolescent well-being by connecting research to practice in the areas of positive youth development and adolescent/young adult health. ACT for Youth connects youth development research to practice and offers guidance to adults who care about the well-being of young people.

   

Our Mission 

The ACT (Assets Coming Together) for Youth Center for Community Action promotes positive youth outcomes and works to reduce risky behavior among youth by advancing the principles of positive youth development and supporting the implementation and evaluation of evidence-based programming.

What You Will Do

The Evaluation Assistant will provide research and evaluation support to the ACT for Youth (ACT) Center for Community Action (CCA), working closely with the Evaluation Coordinator. The primary responsibilities are to: 1) gather and manage research and evaluation data, including organizing and formatting databases; 2) conduct routine surveys, interviews, and focus groups (and be able to answer questions related to the study or project); 3) assist with data analysis (both quantitative and qualitative); and 4) document findings and assist in the preparation of data summaries, reports, and other translational research products. The Evaluation Assistant will assist with creating and managing online surveys using Qualtrics, assist with tracking and testing changes made to the Online Reporting System (used to collect evaluation data), and assist in completing procedural compliance information for Cornell University’s IRB as well as for the New York City Department of Education’s IRB.

The Evaluation Assistant will work closely in collaboration with the ACT Evaluation Coordinator, but will also collaborate with the wider CCA team, as well as community-based program staff across New York State. Travel around NYS for observations, facilitation of training sessions, and data collection may be required.

Required Qualifications

Associate’s degree and 2 years of related experience or equivalent combination.

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects and tasks simultaneously, handle the demands of deadlines, and seamlessly move between changing priorities.

Experience with literature searches via internet and library sources; excellent analytical and communication skills; ability to present information in various formats; and excellent interpersonal skills and coordinating ability.

Ability to initiate own work schedule and solve problems; must demonstrate initiative.

Experience with Windows Office applications, including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint; willingness to learn new technologies as needed.

Experience in and/or demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, access, inclusion, and wellbeing.

Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Experience incorporating the perspectives of multiple communities, including communities of color. 

Must be passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, anti-racism, and wellbeing.

Must have ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, and community members. 

Must have and maintain a valid US driver’s license; may be required to operate a motor vehicle (your own vehicle or Cornell-owned) to travel to/from job sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree with a social science major.

Experience with research/evaluation data management, offline and online data collection, database development, and analysis applications (such as SPSS/R, Dedoose, etc.).

This is a one-year, fixed-term position based in Ithaca, NY on Cornell University’s campus. Annual renewal for 5 years (or more) is possible contingent on available funding, work, and successful performance. This hybrid role requires a minimum of three days in-person and up to two days remote work each week.
