Active Transportation Lead - Planning/Engineering | New York, NY | Newark, NJ | Hybrid

The successful candidate will have experience in elements of active transportation – bicycle and pedestrian planning and analysis, safety, transportation planning and roadway design, and project management.

Responsibilities:
Assist and manage a team of professionals in developing bicycle and pedestrian planning solutions which consider all ages and abilities Develop new project opportunities, manage client relationships, and prepare and manage proposal submissionsProvide technical and professional development of staff Monitor project financial performance Attend and lead meetings with agencies, clients, consultant partners, and stakeholders Execute scope associated with transportation planning, operations and/or design, and bicycle/pedestrian safety for projects Design and implement strategic plans for expanding bike/pedestrian infrastructure.Offer expertise in developing long-term policy plans for multimodal transportation systems, in line with state, local government, and federal greenway policies and plansAid in securing project funding through grant writing and proposal support.Participate in professional organizations and forums that promote relationships with clients and teaming partners Collaborate with public agencies and stakeholders to gather input and build consensus for projects.Ensure project compliance with state and federal guidelines on bicycle and pedestrian accommodationsSkills and Abilities:
Strong leadership and project/task management skills Team oriented with the ability to manage multiple assignments and mentor junior staff Self-motivated, highly organized, and detail orientedExcellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills with the ability to articulate technical information to a variety of audiencesAbility to think critically and strategically in solving problems and devising approaches Deep understanding and professional experience with bicycle and pedestrian planning concepts including design, operations, and policy integrationWorking knowledge of resources like the FHWA Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning Guide.Understanding of Vision Zero strategies, state and local safety policies, and federal funding programs like HSIP grantsQualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in transportation planning, civil engineering or transportation or related field of study requiredMaster’s degree a plus and may substitute for 1 year of experience11-15 years of professional experience in transportation planning with a minimum of 8 years of planning experience in bicycle and pedestrian infrastructure requiredAICP or Professional Engineer (PE) license and/or RSP certification for NY and/or NJ (where applicable) greatly preferredOur best estimate of the salary range for this position located in New York City is $130,000-172,000. The final compensation will be based on a variety of factors such as individual qualifications, education, and experience.
