The Standard seeks a talented, and curious actuary to join our ERM team in our Corporate Actuarial and Risk Management Division. You will be working with the ERM team to evaluate, monitor, and manage risks in our risk framework. You will be involved in researching emerging risks and risk measures as well as collaborating with teams across the organization. This is a highly visible and varied role and will give you exposure to all of our business units as well as leadership across the organization.
Job Summary:
Acceptance to a position in this job family constitutes participation in the Actuarial Student Program at The Standard. The mission of the Actuarial Student Program is to grow actuarial knowledge, business acumen and leadership skills in our Actuaries to enable the achievement of organizational goals.
Actuarial students are expected to progress through the levels of the job family based on academic/exam achievements and by developing their analytical skills, independent decision making, and effective communication and leadership skills.

Risk Management: Gather, analyze and develop strong understanding of profitability, growth, ALM requirements, risk, customer retention, and expense trends, utilizing company, industry and capital market data as necessary. Create and maintain models used in the analysis risk management, income projection and regulatory requirements. Communicate findings to management and provide quantitative knowledge for business/investment/financial strategies. Data Analysis/Information Systems: Extract, analyze and prepare data for use in actuarial analysis. Analyze, interpret and present numerical data related to pricing and other actuarial analysis. Cross Collaboration: Communicate and collaborate with various departments across the organization to meet business needs. Using data and analysis, provide strategic guidance in influencing management decision making. Actuarial Exams: Prepare for and pass actuarial exams and maintain continuing education requirements.Skills and Background You’ll Need:
Education/Experience: Moderate demonstrated experience in an actuarial capacity. ASA designation, or equivalent, required. Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent combination of education and experience) in mathematics, actuarial science, business or a related field preferred. Analytical Skills: This position combines advanced and creative actuarial knowledge with sound business judgment, based on experience with a range of decisions based on actuarial analysis and forecasting, to maximize profit and growth. Combined with its broader awareness of the business, area(s) of specialization, insurance markets, competitive climate, and regulatory environment, the position performs complex actuarial analysis leading to the recommendation of impactful strategies for risk management. Independence: Determines methods and procedures on new assignments with limited guidance. Begins to develop skills as a mentor and resource to entry level actuaries. Anticipates customer needs and takes initiative to address business challenges. The position may direct multiple complex actuarial projects simultaneously, cross-functionally, as well as aspects of very broad, large and complex initiatives. Influence: Acts as a subject matter expert having frequent interaction with senior department managers or other senior actuarial personnel. Developing communication skills with non-technical audience. Provides consultation and clarification on actuarial models and risk issues, and influences management towards courses of action that have a potentially sizeable impact on products, markets, underwriting, pricing, risk management, and profitability.Key Behaviors of a Successful Candidate:

Please note - the salary range for this role is listed below. In addition to salary, our package includes incentive plan participation and comprehensive benefits including medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits, as well as an initial PTO accrual of 164 hours per year. Employees also receive 11 paid holidays and 2 wellness days per year.
Eligibility to participate in an incentive program is subject to the rules governing the program and plan. Any award depends on various factors, including individual and organizational performance.
Salary Range:
$92,250.00 - $135,250.00Positions will be posted for at least 5 days from original posting date.
