The Adpative PE Teacher is a Gymnasium Teacher working in a small setting Transitional Classroom attending to children with mental and Intellectual Disabilities while providing physical Education Instructions.

Having a Life Guard Certification is preferred.

PURPOSE:
This position provides physical education instruction to students with disabilities. This process includes assessment/evaluation, daily instruction, collaboration with classroom teachers and related service providers.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Teach physical education concepts and curriculum to students K-12 according to Illinois State Board of Education Requirements.
2. Develop, create, and identify the Physical Education Curriculum for the ChildBridge Center for Education within the first year.
3. Adapt curriculum to individual student need as needed.
4. Assess current motor skills and fitness levels at identified benchmarking periods (minimally twice/year).
5. Carry out educational requirements, adaptations, and modifications as specified in IEP.
6. Develop and write annual Physical Education goals for students.
7. Consult and work cooperatively with teachers and related service/therapy staff to meet student needs.
8. Consult and work collaboratively with the Little City Recreation Dept. and Team to ensure program objectives are met.
9. Plan and implement lessons appropriate for students abilities and functioning levels.
10. Identify, and obtain materials to teach effectively individuals with disabilities.
11. Maintain control and storage of ChildBridge Center for Education Equipment used for Adaptive Physical Education and/or Recreational Therapy purposes.
12. Provide updates to teachers, parents/guardians, case managers, and other team members as appropriate.
13. Supervise paraprofessionals or teachers acting as paraprofessionals in the physical education/recreational therapy class.
14. Participate in ongoing professional development to ensure certification/licensure remains current.
15. Develop, monitor, and revise classroom behavior management programs.
16. Administration of formal, informal, benchmarking, classroom, and state assessments.
17. Provide needed accommodations for student learning and testing when required.
18. Build and maintain safe, fair, and respectful learning environments that celebrate the diversity of the student population.
19. Work collaboratively within a team environment.
20. Collaboration with the Little City Recreation Dept. to ensure community based students have can access Special Olympic Events should they be eligible to participate.
21. Identify Special Olympic Events in collaboration with the Little City Recreation Dept. as requested.
22. Act as liaison between Little City Recreation Dept. and Center for Education in completing paperwork related to Special Olympics registration and requirements for event participation for community-based students.
23. Other Duties as assigned by the Center for Education Administrator that would be expected or anticipated of an educator within the school.
24. Maintains American Heart Association certification in First Aid and CPR.
25. Successfully completes Little City required training, re-training, and any additional training as required by Little City policies and practices, or as assigned by his or her immediate supervisor.
