We’re looking for talented, committed individuals to join our team as we push onwards toward certifying the Joby aircraft with the Federal Aviation Administration, scaling our manufacturing, and preparing to launch commercial service in 2025. Overview

Joby Aviation is searching for a self-motivated, highly organized, and responsive proven leader with a track record of success at leading and growing a high-performing engineering Additive Manufacturing team.  The leader will manage people, internal customer satisfaction, and department financial goals including establishing budgets, managing capacity planning, and coordinating business development opportunities and strategies.  Collaborative communication is paramount with parties within and outside of the company department and has responsibility for communicating with diverse parties external to the organization.  Negotiates and influences others to understand and accept new concepts, practices and approaches.  Requires the ability to communicate with executive leadership regarding matters of significant importance to the organization.  Must be responsive to incoming requests for information and tasks. This individual will be an analytical and creative thinker, able to see both big-picture as well as day-to-day.

Responsibilities

Meet engineering requirements, executing strategic business goals, and managing engineers and supervisors

Lead the development of the team through challenging technical aspects of product and technology development, career planning discussions and strategic objective setting

Drive product strategy, create roadmaps, build efficiencies around engineering and development strategies

Focus on the structuring and operation of the Additive Manufacturing team as a cohesive unit; the conceptualization and day-to-day management of simultaneous projects; delivering product designs to agreed specifications within time and budget constraints, and the fostering of innovative solutions to cater to internal and external customer needs

Ensures compliance with federal, state, local, industry, contractual, and company regulations, standards, specifications, and best practices

Required

BA/BS degree in Materials Science, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field, Master's degree in Engineering preferred

Technically proficient in additive manufacturing and well-rounded in negotiations, financial planning, and business acumen, as well as verbal, and written communication skills

Ability to translate a business strategy into specific team objectives, breaking down organizational boundaries through collaboration, building strong relationships based on trust with all levels of employees, and a track record of personal engagement with other members of leadership

Ability to gain internal consensus; operate independently without supervision or feedback; conceive new and innovative ideas and solutions; predicting potential outcomes, and determine which alternative course of action to follow

Ability to establish positive, constructive relationships with technical and functional staff, managers, and peers within the Department, and across Joby Aviation

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organizational and time management skills, and attention to detail

Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software

Desired PMP, PgMP, CAPM, and/or comparable project management certifications highly desiredBS or Master’s degree in Business or Business AdministrationAt least 8-10 years of combined experience of engineering, project management, business management, and business developmentAt least 5 years of team leadership experienceAt least 5 years of managing one or more programs providing complete cost, performance, and schedule oversight

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $142,900-$221,000/annually. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
