Adjunct Faculty Open Rank - Natural Sciences **FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT** Founded in 1971 in Long Island City, Queens, LaGuardia Community College is one of seven community colleges of the City University of New York/CUNY. LaGuardia offers more than sixty associate degree and certificate programs, as well as dozens of workforce training, ESOL, GED, and pre-college programs. In 2023, LaGuardia served approximately 25,000 students. More than one-third of our degree-seeking students were born outside of the United States, coming to LaGuardia from 136 countries and speaking forty-three heritage languages. More than half are first-generation college students. Sixty-nine percent live in Queens; the rest live in Brooklyn and beyond. Approximately two-thirds of our degree students receive financial aid. The Natural Sciences Department of LaGuardia Community College of the City University of New York invites applications for part-time faculty members to teach a one semester majors biology course (SCB 201: Lecture meeting Tuesday 9:15-11:30 and Thursday 9:15-10:15 in person) and/or a one semester non-major Introduction to Neuroscience course (SCB 206: Lecture/lab meeting Thursdays 9:15-12:45 in person) during the Spring I semester (3/6/25 to 6/16/25). The successful candidate/s will be required to perform teaching and guidance duties in the area(s) of expertise. This includes teaching lectures, creating, administering and grading assessments (quizzes, exams, lab reports) and providing student guidance. **SCB 201:** SCB 201 is the first semester of our two-semester introductory biology sequence for majors. SCB 201 covers fundamental topics including basic chemistry, the origin of life, cell structure and function, cellular respiration, photosynthesis, cell division, genetics, evolution, development, and genetic engineering. Students are typically majors in biology or related fields. Successful candidates will teach the lecture (but not lab) portion of the course. A Ph.D. in biology or a related field is preferred. **SCB 206** : SCB 206 is a non-major course designed to provide Psychology students with basic knowledge of the biology underlying human behavior. Topics include brain anatomy, neuron form and function, learning and memory, neuropharmacology and related topics. Students include psychology students as well as diverse non-STEM majors. The session meets Thursdays 9:15-12:45 and includes lecture plus six short labs. A Ph.D. in biology, neuroscience, psychology (with a biological emphasis) or related fields is preferred. **QUALIFICATIONS** For Adjunct Lecturer: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree withenrollment in a biology/neuroscience graduate program, or with a master’s degree preferred. For Adjunct Assistant Professor, Adjunct Associate Professor, Adjunct Full Professor: Ph.D. in biology/neuroscience or related field required. The ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. Teaching experience at the college level is highly desirable. **COMPENSATION** For Adjunct Lecturer: $91.67/hr For Adjunct Assistant Professor: $100/hr For Adjunct Associate Professor: $108.33/hour For Adjunct Full Professor: $112.50/hour CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs.
