Job Description

Position Description:

Montclair State University Libraries seeks an adjunct instructor to provide information literacy instruction on the Montclair campus that supports the undergraduate curriculum. Reporting to the Head for Research and Reference Services, this individual will prepare materials for and deliver library sessions in-person as well as online. They will also be expected to maintain office hours for related research appointments. The adjunct instructor will work an average of 15 hours per week across a semester.

 

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Delivers standardized as well as original, customized information literacy instruction sessions, workshops, tours, and/or other orientation/engagement activities in-person and online

Prepares instructional materials in consultation with the instructor on record and handles any follow-ups, as needed

Works closely with relevant librarians on standardized lessons (e.g., for Montclair Core [GenED] and Writing Studies courses)

Provides research appointments for individuals or small groups in-person and online

Completes required statistics and assessments

Provides regular updates to the Head for Research and Reference Services, as requested

Work may include evening hours.

 

Qualifications:

Required:

A Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited library school

A minimum of one (1) year of teaching experience, preferably at the college level

Strong cultural awareness and demonstrated commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, and accessibility.

Ability to communicate effectively and constructively orally and in writing with colleagues, supervisors, and others within and outside the Department

Ability to work both independently as well as collegially and productively in a team environment

 

Preferred:

Familiarity with the ACRL Framework, critical pedagogy, and/or current information literacy teaching principles and practices.

Experience creating learning objects (e.g., tutorials, quizzes, rubrics, etc.)

Experience with the Springshare suite of apps, including LibAnswers, LibCal, LibGuides, and LibInsight

Familiarity with Canvas

Proficiency in Spanish
