Adjunct Instructor - PTB/PD

Basic Function:

The primary responsibility of adjunct faculty is to teach one or more courses or components of the Belanger School of Nursing curriculum. In addition, adjunct faculty shares responsibility for assessing, planning, and evaluating one or more courses or components of the curriculum and shares responsibility program development and evaluation. Responsible for establishing and maintaining relationships with faculty, staff, students, hospital personnel and community agencies to ensure course and program effectiveness.

Requirements:

Licensure: Holds an unencumbered professional Registered Nursing license in New York State

Education: Master’s degree in nursing required. A degree specialty in nursing education preferred.
Experience: Two years of clinical nursing experience relevant to the instructional area and/or evidence of leadership behaviors is required.

Certification: Not required, candidates with a CNE certification are preferred

Responsibilities:

Collaborates with the Course Coordinator to deliver and develop nursing courses or a component of the curriculum. Teaches course content. Evaluates the course offering and student’s progression. Selects appropriate learning experiences (e.g. simulation, interactive learning activities, use of multimedia). Supervises students’ clinical learning. Evaluates students’ clinical performance. Demonstrates organizational ability. Completes and submits all student evaluations and anecdotal records to the Course Coordinator within two weeks of the end of the semester. Assumes a professional role. Takes responsibility for orientation to any new course materials, content and any new clinical units in a timely fashion. Participates in continuing education related to professional responsibilities. Demonstrates knowledge of recent trends in nursing, education, community and legislation. Maintains membership in professional organizations. Serves as a role model for the nursing profession. Participates in all scheduled faculty meetings. Establishes effective communication channels. Interacts collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, hospital personnel and community agencies. Directs students to the Course Coordinator or academic advisor for issues that require academic advisement. Assumes leadership role. Shares leadership responsibilities for planning, implementing and evaluating individual courses or components of the curriculum. Acts independently without undue support. Confers with the Course Coordinator regarding policy decisions/unusual circumstances. Utilizes group dynamics to effect change that promotes group productivity. Analyzes situations utilizing sound critical thinking skills. Provides relevant or pertinent resources (e.g., EAP, domestic violence) to assist students with non-academic concerns. Upholds hospital/school policy. Adheres to hospital policies and procedures related to: Mandatory education. Annual Health assessment. Licensure verification.

 

Salary Range:  $51/hour                     Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
