There is an immediate need to hire for the Fall 2024 semester for the Communication & Media Department. Location Utica, NY Application Deadline *Full consideration by*: Open Until Filled No Major Responsibilities Adjunct Lecturers are needed to teach on-ground during the Fall 2024 semester for the following courses: CMM 103 – Introduction To Public Speaking The ability to speak in public is a valuable tool in any career. This course examines fundamental principles of public speaking, focusing on informative and persuasive messages. Students will learn to choose interesting topics, research and organize content, and present speeches using effective vocal and nonverbal delivery skills. Other important elements of this course include an understanding of how to successfully address different audiences, how to effectively use presentation aids, and the role that public speaking plays in our world today. CMM 181 – Intro to Mass Communication The mass media play a significant role in your life. Books, newspapers, magazines, movies, music, radio, television, and the Internet are sources of information and entertainment that provide a shared cultural experience. The mass media have also historically shaped our economy and continue to be powerful channels for commerce. Introduction to Mass Communication inspires you to look at the mass media from a historical and critical perspective, and encourages you to become an informed consumer of media. *When applying, this course can be found under Journalism/Public Relations. CMM 325 – Interpersonal Communication This course explores the opportunities and problems encountered when cultural differences complicate the communication process. This includes situations in which there are major differences in ethnicity and nationality, however problems also arise in communication between people who differ on other cultural dimensions, such as variations in gender, ethnicity, religion, social class, occupation, geography/place of origin, age, sexual orientation, and other significant cultural dimensions such as musical preference, and political affiliation. Particular attention will be given to contemporary sources of conflict and problematic relationships, and how to manage and resolve intercultural communication problems. SCM 395 – Sports Information and Publicity Public Relations principles, practices, and skills as applied in a sports information setting. Emphasis on writing, media relations, and crisis management Driving Responsibilities Travel Supervises Education Required Bachelor's Certification Required Education & Experience Qualifications + Bachelor’s Degree Required. Master’s Degree preferred. + Relevant professional experience required. + Previous teaching experience in a classroom setting preferred.
