GRADE: Local 2 - TS6

SALARY: $64,842.56

LOCATION: Washington, D.C.

PURPOSE:
This position is responsible for directing and coordinating the administrative work for SEIU
Government Relations and Strategic Initiatives departments. The incumbent manages large
quantities of materials, data, and records and serves as lead on special projects, conferences,
workshops or other specialized programs.

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Coordinates and integrates the work activities of several organizational segments ensuring
completion of projects.
● Receives correspondence for department or program director; routes mail or responses to
appropriate party and follows-up for completed actions.
● Maintains director’s calendar; screens visitors and callers and answers inquiries involving
established procedures or routine matters.
● Coordinates the work flow with other departments or field staff; revises or clarifies
procedures to resolve conflicts or eliminate duplication of work.
● Ensures that requests for actions or information are directed to appropriate staff as required;
ensures that information requests are furnished in a timely manner.
● Maintains software programs relevant to department operations; integrates data from the
Accounting and Information Technology Departments; provides data for programs and produces
reports.
● Analyzes information and assists in writing and preparing materials for conferences,
workshops, conventions, meetings, mailings, etc.
● Controls administrative functions within the department including budget, leave reports,
orders and maintains supplies and files.
● Trains other support staff and distributes administrative support activities when applicable.
● Performs other duties as required to support the department and its mission.

DIRECTION AND DECISION MAKING:
This position reports to the department operations manager and the incumbent works
independently with minimum supervision.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of progressive administrative experience. Equivalency:
Graduation from high school or equivalent and seven (7) years of progressive administrative
experience. Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following
knowledge, skills and abilities:


● Thorough knowledge of modern office procedures and practices.
● Knowledge of unions or other advocacy groups.
● Ability to analyze problems, collect data and make sound, logical conclusions.
● Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work and supervise others.
● Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
● Ability to develop proficiency in software package(s) required by the department.
● Skilled in the use of personal computers using word processing software and Microsoft Office
Suite.


TEST/CERTIFICATIONS:
● Ability to type 65 wpm.
● Microsoft Office: Word Intermediate, Excel Intermediate, and PowerPoint
Intermediate.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Work is generally performed in an office setting. Some overtime may be required.
