Performs all clerical functions related to daily operations of the pathology section. Responsible for accurate editing of pathology reports.
Responsibilities Edit all pathology reports including surgical, autopsy and/or cytology reports, accurately and efficiently.Prepares and refers pathology reports and/or slides/blocks for consultations.Responsible for daily status of pending surgical reportsMaintains medical and administrative files and records using numerical, alphabetical and other coding systems including electronic data.Compose and/or produce routine correspondence, reports, letters and other documents, ensure the validity and accuracy of these according to established procedures. Refers questionable results to the appropriate personnel.Attends staff meetings, records minutes, prepare confidential and special reports.Operates general office equipment including computer, facsimile, copy machine, dictation and transcription equipment as trained and instructed.Responsible for all documentation required for the tasks performed.Prepare quality management reports including performance improvement reports, monthly and annual quality control and other records as necessary to meet regulatory requirements.DCH Standards:

QualificationsHigh school graduate or possess a GED certificate. Ability to satisfactorily type from dictation preferred. Organization and computer skills required; medical records and billing skills with a general knowledge of medical terminology as normally acquired by similar transcription. Secretarial or Laboratory experience preferred.
Abilities are demonstrated in areas of assigned responsibilities by successful completion of annual laboratory competency testing. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
Able to stand, walk, and sit for long periods of time. Is able to lift a maximum of 50 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying objects weighing over 10 pounds. Vision and hearing must be normal or corrected to within normal. Normal color vision for those tasks requiring color differentiation.
Includes exposure to human body fluids, disease, infection, laboratory chemicals and hazardous material. Requires wearing common protective or safety equipment. Physical presence on site is essential. Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
Frequent interaction with others in the Laboratory and other departments in person, by telephone or by email, to resolve issues with patient care that are impacted by laboratory testing. Due to the emotional and/or emergency nature of patient care some customers may be unpleasant, angry or discourteous in their requests for Laboratory services.
