Pay range: $52.51/hr - $79.29/hr

 

Functions in a leadership role within the hospital. Works closely with Directors and CCO in overall planning for nursing department. Helps direct nursing department clinical operations.   Represents hospital administration, department heads and nursing administration in the absence of those personnel. Directs/coordinates all departments’ activities and represents administrative staff in their absence.

Acts as the lead supervisor for shift. Responsible for managing relief supervisors including hiring, supervision, and performance development of relief supervisors.   Responsible for preparing staff schedules as assigned.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Performed majority of the time:

·         Relief Supervisors: refers issues regarding hiring and compensation to appropriate managers.

·         Assist with orientation by monitoring the progress of CRU staff and 60401 Nurse Techs.

·         Monitor competency of agency staff.

·         Participates in decision making which affects on-going Nursing Department activity.

·         Supervisors: attends Nurse Management Council and Nursing Administration Group meetings.

·         Relief Supervisors: attends Nurse Management Council meetings.

·         Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established policies and procedures:

o   Location of Hot File and knows contents.

o   Articulates how to call codes.

o   Knows location of fire extinguishers, fire alarm, emergency equipment, O2 shut off procedures.

·         Supervisor coordinates high census meeting and plan. Facilitate resolution for conflicts about patient placement (right place, right skill set, right time).

·         Utilizes basic crisis intervention skills during Code Blue events.

·         Acts as a resource and consultant, consistently utilizing problem-solving techniques, in the assessment and resolution of concerns and conflicts.

·         CRU schedules are developed by shift supervisors (N/A for relief supervisors unless assigned).

·         Prepares staff schedules, including obtaining director approval, timely distribution, to assure adequate availability of staff for patient care.

·         Follows staffing plan and adjusts daily staffing assignments to provide maximum utilization of personnel to meet patient care requirements.

·         Assists in patient placement process to meet patient care needs and facilitate best nursing staff utilization.

·         Coordinates staff assignments to accommodate expected and unexpected changes in patient status.

·         Facilitates appropriate procurement of per diem (agency) staff by:

o   Assist with unit’s requests.

o   Obtain Directors’ approvals as applicable.

·         Facilitates efficient management of low census by receiving notice from unit managers regarding employees subject to low census and assigning such staff as needed, communicating the final assignment to the original unit and if the staff member is unable to be assigned notifies the unit manager.

·         Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by providing documentation to account for resource utilization.

o   Electronic Sitter Log to Log and monitor 1:1 & 1:2 C.N.A, as part of staffing.

o   Supervisor documents variances on staffing worksheets.

·         Shares and disseminates information to staff to keep them informed of policy changes and corporate and departmental financial status.

Performed occasionally but critical to successful performance of the job:

·         Attends job related education opportunities to promote managerial and professional growth.

·         Procures supplies, patient records etc. as needed.

·         Coordinates the activities of all departments in the absence of administration.

·         For Med/Surg., Resource RN’s & C.N.A.’s: participate in hiring activities as requested.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education:

Required

·         Bachelor of Science in Nursing; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Preferred

·         Master of Science in Nursing.

 

Experience:

Required

·         Minimum of five (5) years (within the last 10 years) relevant clinical experience in acute care setting and BSN; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

Preferred

·         Two or more (2+) years’ prior management experience.

 

Licenses, Certifications and/or Registrations:

Required

·         Current licensure as a Registered Nurse by Oregon State Board of Nursing.

·         American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS.

 

Preferred

·         ACLS.

·         Demonstrates confidentiality according to PHI regarding patient and co-worker information.

·         Effectively manages multiple priorities and deadlines.

·         Performs management functions consistent with policies & procedures.

·         Provides leadership and direction in accordance with corporate mission, values, goals and objectives.

·         Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients based on principles of growth and development and life stages.

 

Preferred
