Description
Bilingual (Spanish) Senior Public Health Educator HIV/STI
Under the supervision of the HIV/STI Prevention Manager, the Bilingual (Spanish) Senior Public Health Educator – HIV/STI promotes population health by developing and implementing health promotion and education initiatives in a variety of settings for diverse populations in the City of Detroit. Initiatives will focus on working with parents and guardians to increase their ability and skills to talk with their child about sexual health, as well as working directly with youth to develop the capacity to make healthier choices related to sex and relationships. The Bilingual (Spanish) Senior Public Health Educator - HIV/STI will work to strengthen community-based partnerships involving public and private organizations to address health priorities that encourage healthy lifestyles, policies, and environments. Work assignments will change as initiatives and projects evolve.

Examples of Duties
Program Implementation
+ Assist with the development and implementation of multiple strategies, initiatives and activities that promote health and prevent disease in various community settings.
+ Lead sexual health education initiatives, coordinating with program staff to ensure high quality materials and activities are used.
+ Develop, implement and evaluate health education programming.
+ Research and retrieve information regarding evidence-based health promotion and health education initiatives from a variety of resources.
+ Develop and promote health education and behavior change materials and information that are medically accurate, culturally appropriate, and educationally sound.
+ Provide education to individuals, families, and community groups that are adapted to their needs, lifestyle, cultural background, socio-economic, and health literacy level.
+ Ensure client confidentiality, complying with HIPAA requirements at all times.
Quality Improvement
+ Gather, organize, and maintain data for program monitoring, evaluation, and improvement.
+ Evaluate outcomes, effectiveness of plans, and make changes as necessary.
Communication
+ Deliver targeted, culturally and developmentally-appropriate information to help individuals and groups understand health promotion and disease prevention information.
+ Utilize appropriate methods for interacting effectively and professionally with persons of all ages and from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, educational, racial/ethnic, sexual orientation, gender expression, and physical abilities.
+ Adhere to ethical principles and Detroit Health Department policies in the collection, maintenance, use, and dissemination of data and information.

+ Participate in Public Health Emergency Preparedness activities in real or simulated emergencies.
+ Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Health Education, Public Health, Education, Nursing, Health Promotion, Social Work or related field of study; Master's Degree preferred.
Three to four years of experience independently developing educational course materials, organizing and providing health-related training to diverse audiences, and coordinating with participating organizations.
Preference will be given to candidates that have experience raising an adolescent due to the requirements of evidence-based programs for parent sex education.
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) desired.
Must be fluent in English and Spanish
Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be substituted to meet the education and experience requirement of this position.

Medical Plan Offering for Administrative Special Services Employees
The City of Detroit is pleased to continue to provide a medical plan option to our Administrative Special Services Employees for the 2020 plan year. This plan is provided by Blue Care Network of Michigan and utilizes their PCP Focus Network. This plan provides you with the opportunity to receive an enhanced level of benefits and pay less out of your paycheck for your medical plan. There are two important requirements that you should consider and understand if you should decide to enroll in this plan. You will have to choose a primary care physician that serves within the PCP Focus network. This primary care physician coordinates your care. The network includes over 22,000 Primary Care Physicians. There are also Wellness Requirements that you (the subscriber) must meet in order to remain in the enhanced level of benefit.
Administrative Special Services Staff (Exempt) are eligible for the following benefits:
+ CURRENT SICK LEAVE – Granted (3) months of continuous service. (1) day per month, not to exceed (12) days per year.
+ VACATION – Granted (1) day per pay period, not to exceed 20 days per fiscal year
+ PAID HOLIDAYS – Granted if paid for 600 straight time hours in the (12) months prior to the holiday
+ MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT - Granted on same basis as regular employees.
+ WORKERS COMPENSATION – Covered by applicable laws.
+ UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION - Covered by applicable laws.
+ HOSPITALIZATION – You are eligible to purchase healthcare benefits for yourself and your dependents under a group rate. You will be responsible for the full premium, no employer contribution will be applied. Please review the Health Care Plan Options Booklet for more detailed information.
+ This position is not eligible for the City Pension Plan, dental, vision, optical, death, life, disability, funeral, reserve sick or jury duty.
Administrative Special Services Staff (Non-Exempt) are eligible for the following benefits:
