Description
The Municipal Parking Department Impound Lot Attendant should be fully familiar with Chapter 55 of the 1984 Detroit City Code as well as any other Ordinances in the 1984 Detroit City Code, which relate to parking, and with the Administrative Rules of the City of Detroit Administrative Hearing Tribunal adopted on June 18, 1993.
Examples of Duties
+ Assists lot manager with all administrative responsibilities that are commensurate with the disposition of towed vehicles deemed abandoned by the City of Detroit.
+ Investigate and resolve citizen complaints regarding any vehicles that are towed to the Vehicle Redemption and Payment Facility (VRPF).
+ To assist Parking Enforcement personnel (including DPD Abandoned Officers) with logging vehicles coming into the facility.
+ To assist with answering incoming calls from Parking Enforcement personnel (including DPD Abandoned Officers).
+ To make outgoing requests to authorize DPD tow companies for abandoned vehicle collection in accordance with proper rotation of tower and district/precinct.
+ To process Vehicle Condition Report (VCR) and two slips for all incoming abandoned vehicles ensuring accuracy and complete information on all documents.
+ To answer telephone calls and direct calls from citizens regarding booted and/or abandoned vehicles.
+ To video tape all incoming abandoned and boot and tow vehicles.
+ To oversee, direct and coordinate where tow driver(s) park vehicles on the VRPF. This will include working with security to ensure accurate placement and complete documentation of all vehicles on the lot when needed, i.e. dates, tow numbers, reference numbers, VINs, etc.
+ To complete DPD abandoned vehicle paperwork (DPD 131) for all abandoned vehicles.
+ To assist with the release of Booted & Towed, Abandoned and Stolen vehicles to owners, lien holder and/or insurance companies that provide proper documentation.
+ To ensure the proper status and location of vehicles on the lot and in the database.
+ To be proficient in the operation of office equipment, including but not limited to photocopiers, fax and adding machines, and personal computers.
+ To create initial tow records in the database and adjust records, accordingly.
+ To prepare paperwork, mark vehicles and process abandoned vehicles, boot and tow vehicles for auction and/or liquidation sales.
+ To complete auction documents (sales list and final) for distribution to the public and internally.
+ Lot attendant will be required to perform a physical lot inventory and submit a report of inventory at specified times ensuring proper placement of vehicles on lot, accurate documentation on vehicles and time vehicles have been on lot.
+ To ensure that every vehicle stored on the VRPF is reviewed for auction processing during a 21-day rotation interval.
+ To type and mail letters to vehicle owners notifying them of the status of their vehicle (before and after auction proceedings).
+ Coordinate removal of vehicle sold at auction.
+ Impound Lot Attendant may be required to perform other related duties as required by lot manager and/or MPD Operations Manager

The City of Detroit is pleased to continue to provide a medical plan option to our Administrative Special Services Employees for the 2020 plan year. This plan is provided by Blue Care Network of Michigan and utilizes their PCP Focus Network. This plan provides you with the opportunity to receive an enhanced level of benefits and pay less out of your paycheck for your medical plan. There are two important requirements that you should consider and understand if you should decide to enroll in this plan. You will have to choose a primary care physician that serves within the PCP Focus network. This primary care physician coordinates your care. The network includes over 22,000 Primary Care Physicians. There are also Wellness Requirements that you (the subscriber) must meet in order to remain in the enhanced level of benefit.
Administrative Special Services Staff (Exempt) are eligible for the following benefits:
+ CURRENT SICK LEAVE – Granted (3) months of continuous service. (1) day per month, not to exceed (12) days per year.
+ VACATION – Granted (1) day per pay period, not to exceed 20 days per fiscal year
+ PAID HOLIDAYS – Granted if paid for 600 straight time hours in the (12) months prior to the holiday
+ MILEAGE REIMBURSEMENT - Granted on same basis as regular employees.
+ WORKERS COMPENSATION – Covered by applicable laws.
+ UNEMPLOYMENT COMPENSATION - Covered by applicable laws.
+ HOSPITALIZATION – You are eligible to purchase healthcare benefits for yourself and your dependents under a group rate. You will be responsible for the full premium, no employer contribution will be applied. Please review the Health Care Plan Options Booklet for more detailed information.
+ This position is not eligible for the City Pension Plan, dental, vision, optical, death, life, disability, funeral, reserve sick or jury duty.
Administrative Special Services Staff (Non-Exempt) are eligible for the following benefits:
+ CURRENT SICK LEAVE – Granted (3) months of continuous service. (1) Day per month, not to exceed (12) days per year.
