Description
Join the City of Detroit’s Forestry Tree Planting Unit to make a significant impact on Detroit’s tree canopy. In this dynamic leadership position, you will lead the City’s growing planting program, working with a small team of passionate individuals dedicated to urban tree planting and care.
This is a 5-year grant funded appointment term
The Detroit Resilient Tree Canopy (DRTCI) Initiative is 5-year interdepartmental project focused on implementing strategies to increase tree canopy in neighborhoods with less than 20% coverage; improve forest conditions within the City’s park system; expand workforce pathways for youth in the urban forestry field; and to advance utilization of tree and forest inventories, monitoring, and assessment tools to inform long-term municipal forestry strategies.
The Arborist supports the DRTCI by leading the planning, implementation, and evaluation of tree plantings. You will work collaboratively with the project team to create site plans and select species for all neighborhood, corridor, and freeway planting projects. This role requires you to effectively communicate and manage contractors, ensuring contractors are planting in accordance with planting standards and accurately tracking newly planted trees in the City’s asset management system.
