In response to the humanitarian crisis at America’s ports of entry, Devereux provides short-term shelter care services for unaccompanied children who have come to the United States without a parent or legal guardian. Devereux will provide extremely high-quality, trauma-informed residential and educational services for unaccompanied children, with intense supports for their social and emotional health. We will also ensure they receive excellent and immediate physical healthcare including pediatric, dental and nutritional supports for every child.

 

Devereux’s ultimate goal is to ensure every unaccompanied child who receives our services is successfully and quickly discharged into the loving care of their family sponsor and, during the short time they are with us, have received best-in-class medical, therapeutic, recreational and educational services designed specifically to address the traumas they have sustained during, and often before, their migration journey. This is a very high benchmark to set, but we have already begun partnering with leading legal defense nonprofits to ensure children in our care have access to the finest immigration advocates and supports our country offers.

Schedule 

 Monday through Friday 8AM - 5PM

 

The Administrative Specialist is responsible for providing administrative, clerical and office support to the Short-term Shelter program. This role will manage workflow and ensure that deadlines are met. The administrative specialist will respond to questions and requests for information and provide support to other departments as needed. This position reports to the Program Director.

Qualifications

Education:

Minumun of Associates Degree in Secretarial Science or combination of related college courses and relevant secretarial experience.

Experience:

3 yrs. administrative/office management experience. Required

Computer proficiency office skills (Excel, word, outlook, Microsoft Teams)

Other:

Strong computer skills required with attention to detail.

Must have a valid Texas Driver's License in good standing.

Be able to lift up to 50+ pounds and perform Safe and Positive Approaches

Be able to attend ten days of in-house orientation on weekdays (Monday through Friday)Fully immunized /vaccinated (or have a medical/religious exemption) for Varicella, MMR, Tdap, Influenza prior to starting.
