Job Summary The Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCTS) is seeking a highly motivated, professional Director, Business Operations to contribute to the variety of perspectives and excellence of our department and to assist the faculty and staff of our fast-paced research center. The CCTS supports campus research professionals to ensure they are able to meet their research goals and ultimately improve the health of our communities and populations. Since its inception in 2006, the CCTS has invested millions of dollars into research funding and trainee support at the University of Kentucky through its commitment to funding innovative, early stage translational research. The CCTS’s vision is to catalyze clinical and translational discoveries through an integrated and transformative research environment targeting improved health, with emphasis on underserved populations in Kentucky. In support of that vision, the Director, Business Operations role will serve as a team member of the Center for Clinical and Translational Science.

Responsibilities for this position include the ability to lead, develop and implement the annual fiscal appropriations process and overall consolidation of the CCTS and Service Center Annual Budgets along with multiple NIH grant budgets, and subsequent budget variance review with administrative leaders and unit leadership. In partnership with the CCTS Director and Executive Director this employee will analyze and model fiscal impact for personnel, facilities, operating budget and actual reporting, etc. This candidate will provide feasibility studies that support strategic decision making. They will collaborate with CCTS leadership to identify opportunities for expanded revenue and business opportunities, evaluate, develop, and provide guidance to the CCTS Leadership regarding fiscal policies that will result in maximum efficiency and effectiveness and ensure the proper allocation of fiscal, human and physical resources. In collaboration with the Executive Director, this employee will provide strategic leadership to maximize administrative and business operations to advance the vision, mission, and values of the CCTS.

Successful candidates will possess knowledge of OMB Circular Guidance, NIH and NCATS policies; leadership, interpersonal skills, written and oral communication, planning and organization, results-oriented performance management and problem-solving/analytical skills. This employee will also have knowledge of strategic financial management practices development, accuracy, analytical skills, and results-oriented performance management.

IEBC (Internal Employee Being Considered). Skills / Knowledge / Abilities • Experience working with finance and accounting software (knowledge of SAP and Tableau desirable).
• Experience in directing programs and personnel.
• Experience working both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment. Able to lead teams effectively. Does this position have supervisory responsibilities? Yes Preferred Education/Experience 10 years direct work experience in financial management, preferably in a senior management position. Experience with and knowledge of federal grants management preferred. MBA or equivalent degree preferred.
