Admissions Counselor

The Admissions Counselor (AC) supports the mission of the University by meeting new student recruitment goals through relationship development with students, parents, high school counselors and others during on-campus recruitment events, virtual recruitment events, and off-campus recruitment events such as high school visits, college fairs, and receptions in an assigned geographic territory. The AC conducts interviews and group programs to counsel prospective students and their parents about Pitt-Johnstown in particular, and the University of Pittsburgh in general, including academic programs, admissions processes, college selection, career options, and financial aid. A successful AC will possess strong interpersonal and communications skills including public speaking and acumen with all modern/relevant business communication platforms. Admissions Counselors also serve as a member of the Admission Committee, reviewing applications for admissions, and making first action recommendations on applicants from their respective territory of responsibility. Extensive overnight travel and occasional weekend/evening work is required.

Must have ability to move around campus, escort prospective students and families during campus visit, assist with set-up and breakdown of displays during on and off-campus events, communicate effectively with prospects, families, counselors and other constituents, sit for prolonged periods to make telephone calls, and use a computer for electronic database entries or queries and other computer tasks. Must be energetic, and able and willing to travel. Must have a valid driver’s license.
