The Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Tonja M. Williams Knight, is interested in receiving applications from qualified candidates for a part-time hourly position in the Adult Career and Community Education Program (Day/Evening) for the 2024 -2025 School year. The Adult Education Division currently serves over 2500 students aged 16 and up annually throughout the City of Buffalo.

QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must hold a degree (Associate’s, Bachelor’s, etc.) in a related field from an accredited university -OR- have verifiable work experience working with out of school youth. Candidates must hold New York State teacher certification or be willing to apply for a New York State Adult Education Certificate. Candidates applying for certification must also take or show proof of Child Abuse Reporting, SAVE, and DASA workshops. EXPERIENCE: Candidates must have experience working with out of school youth and/or students that have struggled in a traditional school setting. Candidates must have experience working with flexible school schedules and be able to provide differentiated instruction to multiple levels of students, while keeping all students engaged. Preference will also be given to candidates with experience teaching/utilizing computerized, prescriptive software systems. Candidates will also be asked to take an official practice test for the GED exam. DUTIES: Adult Education programs are provided at 16 locations throughout the City of Buffalo. Typically, classes are 3.5 hours, and offered in morning (AM), afternoon (PM), or evening sessions. Teachers:
+ provide quality instruction to students daily during class
+ create lesson plans following any curriculum and/or program guidelines
+ implement the instructional program in an engaging way to students
+ evaluate students and instruction
+ utilize the database for student attendance and performance notes
+ communicate with students; and maintain accurate records.
Optional professional development and training opportunities will be available to the teacher. APPOINTMENT: Appointment will be made by the Board of Education upon the recommendation of the Superintendent following assessment of training, credentials and evaluation of service. Personal interviews will be scheduled where appropriate. Courses will be offered on an “as needed” basis and based on student enrollment and funding. SALARY: Hourly Teacher Salary Schedule.
